Watching your kids get overly confident at video games is cute, right up until they challenge you to Mario Kart 64. They think you’re just an out-of-practice parent. They don’t know about the decades of muscle memory locked away from 1997. When they hand you that controller, it is full-blown Odysseus stringing his bow to silence the suitors. You just quietly pick up the gamepad, select Yoshi, and hand them the absolute worst defeat of their young lives on Wario Stadium. We didn’t have online matchmaking to save us; we had to look our opponents in the eye on the living room floor.
