🇲🇾 Malaysia Ultra-Trail by UTMB 2026 | 12/9/2026 | 56.8 KM / EG 1890 M | 11:16:07

Joined @malaysiaultratrail again as part of my yearly benchmark. Last year I completed the 25K in around 6 hours, so this year I stepped up to the 50K category targeting sub-12 hours. Everything went smoothly up to AS6 (km 42)—clocking in at 8 hours made me excited to push for a sub-10 finish. But the real torture started in the last 12 km. Facing Bukit 500 again on the same route as last year was pure crazy!

To make matters worse, the race guide stated 54 km, but my watch logged 56.8 km. The GPX map didn’t match the actual trail, so hearing constant "out-of-route" alerts was pretty annoying. During the final 5 km, blisters flared up around my feet, forcing me to slow down. Still, I made it across the line in ~11hrs! Having my family waiting at the finish line made this race feel extra special.

The weather in Taiping was much better than last year, with the hot sun coming out only after noon, though it was still brutal. Major props to the organizers for adding 2 bonus water station and supplying unlimited ice.

The highlight of the day was catching up with @carly_balmforth, @hiroyuki.kawachi, and other @radiaterunning folks on the trail (congrats to everyone, including those who were way too fast to catch!). Missed the usual @kjrunclub crowd as not many joined this round, but big congrats to @hilmiclack for finishing the 25K. It was also great meeting @rubenrikumahu & @y.indarto, fellow Indonesian folks who traveled just for this event. Hope to see you guys again—sukses selalu mas!

I’ll definitely be back for the MY50 next year to improve my timing!

Note: main gears with @kailasfuga (@meowtaintrail).
