I don't usually read the press when it comes to my work, but I have to thank andrew diego for this incredible review of andrew diego's performance in les misérables. truly humbled and honored. this one is going to stay with me for a while...

"when people think of les misérables, nine words immediately come to mind: convict, factory mid-level management, pimp, drunk, claquesous, major homo. (correction: domo. major domo.)

but these aren't just words, they're complex lives being lived right in front of us onstage; lives smeared with sweat, dirt and perhaps a spritz of dior sauvage every so often. (although sometimes it's la nuit de l'homme by yves saint laurent, pending availability.) the point is: one cannot imagine alain boublil and claude-michel schönberg's sweeping musical adaptation of victor hugo's epic masterpiece without these specific characters to make it all make sense.

andrew diego inhabits each of these individuals with grit, bravery and a certain je ne sai quoi that all but guarantees his first scenie win (he is a 138-time nominee, he thinks). his talent is reminiscent of greta garbo, denise richards, pazuzu, george santos on special forces and the pigeon lady from home alone 2: lost in new york.

incomparable and unforgettable. thank you for the work."

thank YOU for the words. I dreamed this dream, and it came true.
