"When you create your own rules, you can't lose"

That's the philosophy behind @playtronica, the company that turned fruit, plants, and even human touch into musical instruments.

This week on the podcast, Playtronica's co-founders @pastapas and @aglaya share why they focus less on teaching people music and more on helping them feel safe enough to create.

This is probably the most simple instrument we ever made.

@pastapas of @playtronica started by browsing Amazon for inspiration. Found a kitchen scale. Asked his engineer to hack it. Now it outputs MIDI based on the weight of any object you place on it.
They called it Scales.

This week on the podcast, Playtronica co-founders Sasha and Aglaya sat down with Adam McHeffey to talk about building one of music tech's most creative communities, and what it takes to turn curiosity into an instrument.

You don’t just hear sound. You feel it. When a car drives by, your skin registers it before your brain processes it.

@valsalomaki calls this multimodal perception, and his company is building technology around it.

@edgesoundresearch developed something called Embodied Sound, which turns any material into a surface that you can both hear and feel. Imagine your couch, your floor, your walls all becoming part of the audio experience. They’ve already demoed it in home theater settings and are working with Shure to capture live sports audio at a level that’s never been possible before.

The goal is simple: make music and live experiences feel as real at home as they do in the room

Going live? 🎥

Don’t let unlicensed music crash your stream 🚨

Make sure your tracks are licensed for livestreaming and keep the vibes (and your video) up 🎶✨

That's a wrap! The Santa Monica sun has set on Music Tectonics 2025. We're ready to do it all again- in 2026.

What was your favorite moment?

It's hard to choose between the provocative panels, the spectacular parties (thanks to @stuff_io_official and @tipalti), the dramatic pitch competition finals, Yamaha Music Innovation Fund's Startup day, and of course the friends we made along the way.

Had a blast at the @musictectonics conference - the event brought together emerging artists, familiar faces, and some truly interesting tech all in one place. It was great to explore what everyone is building and see how creativity and technology continue to meet in unexpected ways. 🎼👨‍💻

I participated in @shure’s MicMatch, singing two lines of one of my original songs in seven different mics to get feedback on which one captured my voice the best (the KSM11 was the winner!). I also tried out @theblipbox, a music exploration device that allows people of all ages to create music in fun ways. And of course, spent some time with @dmitrivietze, @dailygraphite, and @shaylimankenbruck_, who ran such a smooth conference and brought together so many awesome people in one space.

Appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it. ✨
