POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This year's Quest Fest is almost upon us so let's look back to Quest Fest 2023. This marked my return to Quest Fest for the first time since 2019 - I've not missed a year since. I was joined for the day by @goth.photographer who introduced me to her wonderful friend @mclcloss. They were there primarily for Dynazty whereas I was just there because Quest Fest is a must, and because it's when I get to see the wonderful @carla_cheryl. There were some familiar faces for me on the bill - I've seen The Black Hounds and Aonia a few times now and they're always very good. Dakesis are of course a band very close to my heart that I've loved since 2009, and they got an absolute hero's welcome at this show. Warlock A.D. were the most fun band of the day - using a giant foam dice thrown around by the crowd and berating us for our choices was a stroke of genius. Victorius were similarly theatrical - silly sci-fi costumes and lyrics about space dinosaurs, that's what power metal is all about! I grabbed a Victorius shirt - their designs were the best. Risen Prophecy had a thrashy edge which was a nice break for me. I love power metal but do find I have a limit - they were the dash of contrast the day needed. After a day of lots of quite fun, light hearted performances, Dragonland and Dynazty closed the day out by elevating it. Slick, professional performances from the premier tier of the genre. You couldn't really top where they took the show. Thanks as ever to @amie_chatterley and her team for keeping this going year after year!

A final photograph from @cryptadeath and @exorcismthrash at The Asylum, and one that feels unmistakably Birmingham. Danny Herrera of @theofficialnapalmdeath and @beckybaldwinbass, two Birmingham metal icons, there to support the bands and enjoy the show alongside the rest of us. always love seeing musicians turn up for other musicians. I also came away incredibly grateful to have met @amie_chatterley from @dakesis and @maatkareofficial. She was instantly warm and generous, and I can’t wait to get her in front of my lens. Birmingham metal showing up for Birmingham metal. I love this city 🖤 Photographer: @nat_sabbath #BirminghamMetal #dannyherrera #beckybaldwin #musicphotography #NatSabbath

Yesterday was the first time in a while that I had the privilege of hearing @gemma_dakesis and @adam_dakesis perform so today's post had to be one of the @questfestuk shows they played at! Ancient Bards were an exceptional headliner for the 2019 show but @dakesis will always have a special place in my heart, they're always the main attraction when they're on a lineup. This was my third Quest Fest but would have been the first one after I met @carla_cheryl. Seeing her at the festival every year is an annual fixture for me, she's a highlight!

Did you know that both the organisers and the quest fest crew are all volunteers who give up their time for free to bring Quest Fest to you each year? Many of our crew are also in their own bands / musical projects and so we've compiled a list of them for you to check out! #newmusic #metalbands #metalmusic #metalartists #metalfestival #progpowermetal #poweremetal #metalband #progmetal #altmetal #numetal #deathmetal #melodicdeathmetal

Wow Birmingham. What a night we had at International Women Slay 2024! A huge thanks to our incredibly talented lineup - @restingbfaceuk @vanitasband @ritestoruin @moon_reaper_uk and I suppose we can give a nod to our own band @dakesis . Big love goes out to our venue at @devilsdog_digbeth Digbeth , they’ve created such a wonderful and safe environment for us and all of our crew and volunteers that helped out on the night. A huge thanks to you all for coming out and supporting this hand curated line up of female empowerment. Please do go and support all the bands from last night by following them on their respective streaming platforms / following their social media pages and engaging with their posts. It all really helps spread the word for independent artists. International Women’s Day may officially only be held one day a year, but for us supporting our fellow sisters and others is something we strive for each and every day. We understand the struggles many face and we are doing everything in our power to create safe and inclusive live music environments for you all. What do you reckon to us taking this kick ass lineup to another city for next year’s IWD? 📹 @dalewhomplaysbass #iwd2024 #internationalwomensday #internationalwomenslay #femaleenpowerment #metalmusic #womenonmetal #deathmetal #punk #altrock #nwobhm #progpower #progmetal #blackeneddeathmetal #metalfamily
