You’re going to want to read this, especially if you are comparing prices and trying to figure out what *actually* matters.

1. Compare apples to apples.
A low price can be tempting, but make sure you are comparing similar products. Look at the full picture: construction, thickness, wear layer, install method, texture, warranty, and “extras” that are really nice to have, like GREENGUARD Gold and ASSURE certifications.

2. Waterproof does not mean floodproof.
Vinyl floors are made to handle everyday spills, splashes, and moisture. That does not mean they are designed for flooding, standing water, or long-term water exposure (no matter what anyone says). If your subfloor has moisture issues, waterproof flooring isn’t a solution.

3. You do not need a garage full of tools to DIY install…but some are game-changing. We would put these on the “worth it” list:
- Jigsaw
- Vinyl flooring cutter
-Oscillating multi-tool
- High-quality cushioned knee pads

4. EXTRA underlayment can cause problems.
If your LVP already has an attached pad, adding another layer of underlayment may not do as much as you think for sound or comfort. Even if a salesperson says you should. 🫣In fact, the risk probably outweighs the reward. It can damage your flooring or void your warranty because too much cushion under the floor can create vertical movement, weakening the locking system and leading to gapping, breakage, or other issues nobody wants to deal with after install day. Always read your manufacturer’s warranty to determine whether additional underlayment is approved or not.

5. You probably do not *need* a 30+ mil wear layer.
While a thicker wear layer can be a perk, it’s likely more than the average home needs (and is more expensive). A 12-mil wear layer is designed to perform in residential spaces, and a 20-mil wear layer is made for high-traffic residential use and even some commercial settings. Now, if a 30+ mil wear layer gives you peace of mind because your home includes three kids, five dogs, two cats, and a goldfish, do your thing!😉 The best floor is the one that makes sense for your home, your budget, your lifestyle, and your DIY plans.

Cliffside Tan has that “goes with everything” warmth, with a pretty mix of blonde, warm gray, and light brown tones plus French Oak-style grain and cathedraling.

One thing to know before you fall in love: lighting can change the way any floor looks. In the case of Cliffside Tan >> Bright natural light may bring out the blonde tones, warm lamps can make it feel a little cozier and richer, and cooler bulbs might pull forward the soft gray notes.

Our best advice? Order a sample and move it around your space. Check it in the morning, afternoon, and at night so you can see how it looks in your home, not just on your screen. 💛🤎🩶
