It doesn’t feel like a year has passed since you left dad but man, so much has happened. I know how fortunate I was to know there wasn’t anything left unsaid, that I got to learn who you were and accept all the challenges and gifts that you gave. Love you to the moon and beyond grandpa green bananas, only you would say: “I’m a ripe banana now! ♥️

As we mark International Women’s Day, I want to give a shout out to my mother Rita Sina for her contribution. Charismatic, tenacious, talented and of course resourceful this very shy woman left her mark and thanks to another great woman @maria.meredith.1072 a landmark with ‘Rita Meredith Rd’ in Wai o Taiki Bay, Tāmaki Makaurau. #internationalwomensday

‘Higher Frequencies’ by Danielle Akenese Meredith (DAM) at a time when it seems like the world is upside down, this portrait offers a state of tranquility and bliss!

“The people in my paintings are a representation of my village. I painted peers within my own generation in relation to people who would have the closest experience to mine and what I was going through.
My work is also about letting go of doubts and insecurities and the weight of my own unrealistic expectations, especially when my body physically gave way. This was a catalyst, a call for action and something I needed to release in order to move forward and make sense of this new world I had to face.”

‘This is Everything’ 2023 by DAM/Danielle Akenese Meredith.

‘My ideas usually develop naturally and subconsciously as I sleep. After an incubation period of analysis and dreaming of endless possibilities, I intuitively know when I have landed on the prize and what I want with an exact road map of how I will get there.’

‘Pin Light Pillars’ until Feb 17.

KMG resumes normal hours on Wed Jan 24

‘Is That Right’ (2023, acrylic on canvas, 86cm x 86cm) is a portrait from the artist’s village of peers. With her health in serious decline last year, DAM (Danielle Akenese Meredith) painted her way back to the physical realm to produce ‘Pin Light Pillars.’ The works realise her sacred connections and honour those who have passed, grandfather John and family matriarch grandmother Anamalia, the pillars of her life!

Nobody can identify their own remains, and I am unable to identify my own

Sitting in front of the screen, my thoughts resemble a bombed hospital.
Someone is digging
they dig inside of me endlessly
for the last grave.
Where is the ultimate resting place
the last grave of all happenings?

The martyrs in blue plastic bags
pour into a mass grave like a river.
There is death...a kind of death no one has
ever known before:
No doctor, no funeral parlor, no
morgue attendant.
A death unlike itself;
greater than the dead can bear.
Greater than what even death can
withstand.

Families from which not even a single
mouth survived to say:
we were once here
women pregnant with children who
will never be born
wombs open to those who desire to
return now
bombed

horses... horse parts
birds...bird parts
cats...cat parts
donkey-drawn carts
- none survived –
heading south

None will arrive.
Paramedics rush to homes
that died a week ago without them being known to
anybody.
