Since images were drawn on cave walls, we have been recording experiences, cultures, and narratives. A story can survive not only through physical means, being preserved across different spaces, but also through artistic form.

A while back I got pulled into something that stretched what I thought “marketing support” meant.

Total Kombat was built to give tatami-based fighters, kickboxers, Muay Thai fighters, Taekwondo athletes, a professional pathway that simply doesn’t exist for them the way it does in boxing or the UFC. Elite-level fighters in these disciplines often have to abandon what they’ve trained in for years just to go pro. Total Kombat has set out to change that.

Working alongside founders Andy Cleeves, Lee Matthews, Ben Achilleas, and Damon Samson and being around a team with that level of conviction in what they are building is something else. When people who’ve genuinely lived a problem and set out to fix it, the energy in the room is different. It’s contagious, and it raised what I thought was possible in my own work too.

I’ve worked across social media, event organising and operational support. It’s broadcast on @itvxofficial, which has opened up a completely different world for me. Production schedules, broadcast standards, the sheer coordination behind putting a live combat sports show in front of a national audience.

What’s stuck with me most is watching a small team back themselves on something nobody had built before, and pull it off.

That’s the environment I chase now.

- Balance is a myth stop trying to find it. If you are doing one thing there is something else you aren’t. Stop trying to be everywhere or you’ll be nowhere.
- Give 110% to whatever you’re doing. Be fully present and then move to the next thing. Set your systems and environments up so that you can easily move from one space to the next.
- Your output is only as good as your input. If you don’t feed your soul, your body, your mind, you will have nothing to light you.
- Have a small circle of friends. People you really care about who can call you out and support you just the same. Friendship outlasts most everything else.
- Whoever you are, learn to be okay with. Good bad and ugly this is who you got, if you spend your life denying who you are, you’ll never be able to change and you’ll be too busy defending yourself to yourself to do anything different.
- Learn how to read your money or your money will ride you. You can be long into success but if your money behaviors from your upbringing as still present, you will still operate in survival.
- Learn how to track and observe your data. That includes your failures as much as your wins. Data collection is your first move, learn to remove the emotion from it.
- If you don’t know what to do, invest in yourself. Surround yourself with advisors who clear the noise for you. This is arguably the most efficient way to grow and live.
- All the agreements you make in your life, the contracts and the relationships should constantly be reevaluated. I use a basic 5 question rule: what is one the one truth here, what is not true, What is working, what isn’t, what needs to change.
- The narrative you tell yourself is the most important energy you expend in your day. Keep it clear and keep it clear from people who impact it negatively.
- bonus: your emotions are not a strategy. Learning to regulate and check your last strategic checkpoints will save you more money and time than any system ever could.
