It was a sunny day when I stepped out on a Tuesday three years ago. A blue shirt, black jeans trousers and a matching blue cap to shield my face from the angry sun, I was headed for Bisola’s birthday. “I hope this bus people go get change today o, I no get power abeg” I thought as I got closer to the road. Achi was based at the narrow end of the path taking shade under the been tree that day. Achi was an old beggar who seeked alms from anyone who cared to ask for many years. I’ve known her since my primary school days and some people speculate she’s been there for longer. She suffered motor impairment, was crippled. “Good afternoon Dogo” she greeted me. “Inna unni Achi” I greeted back. “This one you dressed so nice today, where are you going to?”. “can’t somebody dress nice again?” I teased. “I’m going to a friends birthday party, I have to be there on time. Have you change of N500 please? These conductors never have change”. “Let me check, nobody ever has change these days” she replied. I sought solace under the “dogo yaro tree” as she went through her old purse. “Achi, you never talk about yourself. You are quite educated and speak well, how did you end up like this?” I enquired. “are you sure you want to know, Dogo? It’s a long story and you seem to be in a hurry” she responded. “Tell me, I can wait.” I said as I sat on top a big stone close to her. “I wasn’t always like this. I’m from Taraba and my parents were rich people. When I was sixteen, both my parents died from a car accident. I was the only child so my father’s brothers shared all his wealth among themselves and left me with very little. I went from very rich to poverty as no one cared. Aduragbemi foundation came to existence as a result of this as the visioner herself is the only child of her both parents and she understands what it means to have nothing, she and her team members have been working hand in hand to make the world a better place.. Several outreaches done by them but during this pandemic two successful outreaches was told tagged street care for beggers on the street and they are really to continue impacting life's and putting smiles. #Unionrisechallenge #Aduragbemifoundation
