#snackfridayride “I Found My Wallet in El Segundo” is a reversed version of our classic El Segundo route. The start is the same at @laaleworks_culver but instead of taking the beach bike path down the coast, we turn off the Ballona Creek bike path a little earlier to head South toward LAX and pass through the forbidden Lincoln tunnel on our way.

An unexpected flight of stairs leads to the last dirt trail of the route which certainly brought joy to more than one gravel rider before making the final approach to the beach bike path which would carry us to @projectbarleyredondobeach and @scholbpremiumales for a colorful sunset. It was only fitting that we would make our final #craftbeer stop of the ride at @laaleworks_hermosa, the new sister taproom to our finish location in Culver City.

When life gives you public parks in dubious locations, make picnics with dubious beverages. You are not supposed to ride bikes on the greens on your way out of the golf course, but sometimes when the group crowds the pathway it becomes necessary for safety... that’s our story and we’re sticking to it. Bike lanes get slim during the ride around the remainder of Palos Verdes but the views continue to put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Onward we rode across trail and road with the most spectacular ocean views on our way to the backdoor entry of the Trump National Golf Course, which we had to ride allllll the way through in order to reach the legally mandated public park in the middle. As far as we know, no golf scores suffered due to our raucous passage along the golf cart paths.

The bridge at Wilmington Park is an obligatory photo op on the way to our first #craftbeer stop at @elsegundobrews from whence we made haste to the most recognizable landmark in the neighborhood at #sunkencity where even the local wildlife knows that Corn Nuts are best paired with #beer

Of all the #letourdepichets routes, none is more celebrated than “Erosion Control” which starts with a renegade crank from downtown Long Beach across the International Gateway Bridge which has a lovely bike path that is being held hostage by the port authority with a gate halfway through crossing. Last year we were surprised to find that the gate had been rammed through by some sort of vehicle and while we share in the frustration that such a glorious piece of cycling infrastructure would be blocked off, we do not condone that type of destruction so we were happy to find that it had been repaired when we got to it this year and thrilled to find that it was open at the time. The Commodore Schuyler F Heim Bridge is by far the safest egress from Terminal Island and every time we ride it, we can’t help but feel that it’s silly not to implement a properly striped bike lane along the very wide shoulder next to the traffic lanes. Political logjams and prohibitive signage be damned; this is a fun ride that every local should have access to.

Back on pavement from our little gravel excursion, we had one more set of train tracks to cross on our way to @hopsecretbrewery in Monrovia where all it takes is a few sips of their hoppy concoctions to coax one’s inner child into playing some MarioKart. From there we made stops right on schedule at @mtlowebrewing in Arcadia, rtrbrew in Sierra Madre. After that we crossed back into Pasadena for @wildparrotbeer, @delpueblobeer, and @stonepasadena but battery issues cut our camera capture short for the day so they could not all be pictured. Nonetheless, a good time was had by all and many pints were liberated along the #letourdepichets “Take a Pas” route

This year the “Take a Pas” route had a fun new off-road segment that took us along some train tracks to form a shortcut between stops. There is a lot of unused space surrounding these barely-used tracks and it would be nice to see a bike path properly installed so more cyclists could get safely across town without braving the traffic on busy roads with bike lanes that mysteriously disappear as suddenly as they appear.
