If Elephants Could Talk by Ranjeeta Raam, illustrated by Damini Gupta, follows twelve-year-old Meenakshi, who stops speaking after her mother’s death and finds solace in dance. When she befriends Ganeshan, a temple elephant who is mistreated, she must find the courage to speak up for him and other elephants.

Written in lyrical verse, this moving story explores grief, friendship, compassion and the importance of standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

If Elephants Could Talk is shortlisted for the Jury Awards, Children’s Books category, at the Crossword Book Awards 2026.
