Yesterday we attended the @reset_at_sunset event on the lake, and after 15 months of living in New Orleans, it was my favorite event i’ve attended — because of its intention.

A couple hundred beautiful Black folks with blankets, lawn chairs, some with tents, coming together for the purpose of rejuvenation, restoration, relaxation. When Reset’s co-organizer, @nesbyphips said that the goal was to have attendees go into their week with a calm nervous system, I felt that at my core. From the local vendors who served refreshing drinks and light bites that were filling, but not “itis-inducing,” to the breezy low 80s temperature that was the atmospheric hug we all deserved, it was lovely to watch so many of us actively engaged in chilling.

@lesliedrose was telling me about how when she was a student at Xavier, Black folks gathering at the lake was a weekly ritual, but how in recent years the area being over policed had deterred many Black residents from hanging out there.

In that regard, Reset also represents reclamation of space.

From celebrating the birthday of one of my beloved Ashé colleagues to vibing to some mid tempo soul grooves, to seeing a little Black girl dressed in a sunflower printed dress that mirrored the sunflowers given to attendees, to the event bookending my 17th wedding anniversary, my soul & body was where it needed to be yesterday.

And I hope to be back when it returns.

Q1- I’m grateful for the duality… it’s a blessing. Cus I went through some rough times that really felt like the wind was kicked outta me… but that didn’t stop the good from rolling in! I’m so super grateful that God continues to show me that no matter how the cards are dealt I have a COMMUNITY of people that ROLL behind me. And without hesitation! Knowing that has been instrumental for me in this season of new kinds of challenges.

Baby when I say this 1st quarter tried to give it to me? Please believe it! But my community showed up in so many ways that I needed and many ways I didn’t expect! FREE cruises, spontaneously opening up their homes to me cus I travel how I travel, literally throwing their keys at me to get things handled when I pop in town, pixie cuts, prayers, furniture, food, finger waves, grace, love, joy, advice, encouragement… soooo much good that no matter how long this paragraph gets, yall ain’t gon fully grasp it. It’s even crazier that no one person knows every thing I’ve dealt with/ dealing with… they are just here! Fueling my joy! It just makes the out pouring of love so much more special to me. I appreciate yall so much! I’m thankful. Rested. Excited! Sooooo grateful! Soooo chocolate 🤭And Thickk (again)🥰. I’m headed back to work after my annual winter reset and I’m good and available in every way to take on what’s next. I love yall down.

I’ve been all over on the land and the water these past three months… figure it out chile I can’t tag all them places and things 😁
