Last year marked 100 years since Bobbejaan was born. A mega-star in his homeland of Belgium and a pioneer of European country music. He sold more than five million records, wrote nearly 500 songs and (just like Dolly!) was a massive entrepreneur, building his own theme park: Bobbejaanland.

My film began as a commission from MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp, celebrating the late great Bobbejaan Schoepen and his friendship with western wear designer Nudie Cohn, who referred to his friend as “the cowboy from over there”. Bobbejaan may have been from Belgium, but he looked pure Nashville thanks to Nudie.

We drove to Bobbejaanland first, where we met Tom, who showed us around his parents’ home & recording studio hidden within the park itself. It felt like stepping into another world. A mid-century time capsule dream and home to the largest collection of Nudie Cohn costumes outside of America.

Tom dressed in his father’s clothes and pulled up in his pristine 1970 Pontiac Bonneville customised by Nudie himself. I couldn’t help myself and squeezed into his mother Josée’s studded denim outfit. An extraordinary day.

Then came touring this precious collection back to the UK. Dressing musicians & artists in these wearable works of art and bringing them back to life through film.

80% of the profits are going directly to War Child, a charity that has initiatives in all of the featured countries, helping to foster self-determination and empowering communities to rebuild their own futures.

Let’s keep talking about these countries. Peace!

If Your Soul Loves the Sun Vol. 1 / Heavy Metta / Onsemble / 2026

👇
The T-shirt, subverting the Band Member format, brings together five countries that are all in the depths of their own catastrophes and in need of critical aid: Sudan, Congo, Yemen, Lebanon and Palestine.
🕊️

These countries are all dealing with the very omnipresent traces and realities of colonialism, and a global political system that is choosing to look the other way.
80% of the profits are going directly to War Child, a charity that has initiatives in all of the featured countries. A majority of their program staff are from the countries they serve, ensuring interventions are rooted in authentic cultural understanding.
