I don’t usually make posts like these but today was a very special day for me.

I come from a family of immigrants, my mom being born in Jalisco Mexico. This makes me a second generation immigrant. By this logic, since I’m born here in the US, I shouldn’t be scared of ICE.

Every day I walk home terrified. Not only for myself but for my family.

Just a few weeks ago, my closest friends kept warning me “don’t walk home, ICE is at 4th street today. Stay safe.”

For fucks sake!! We are not even adults and we’re out here sacred of the possibility of being taken away by what’s supposed to “serve” and “protect” the people.

I shouldn’t have to turn away if I see a police officer. I shouldn’t be so distrustful by the government but time and time again they fail to protect us. Kids. In the end that’s what we still are until we turn 18. Kids.

Our government fails to protect kids.

I shouldn’t have to feel ashamed of what our country, my home, has turned into. But how can I defend a country that actively separates families every. single. day.

In 2025, my family and I were on a road trip and as we were going into Arizona, a police car pulls us over. One policeman took my dad aside and questioned him while another policeman asked my mom to leave the vehicle and to show some proof of identification.

Albeit, may not be long but I was then separated from my mom and dad. All because we are brown.

My mom may have an accent, my dad might be darker than most but we are still American. So is any immigrant who is going through the process of becoming naturalised. No matter how far into the process they are in, we must lend our compassion and respect to how much they needed to sacrifice in order to call the USA, home.
