Live life to the fullest of my capabilities. I'm the brokest philanthropist you'll ever meet but my heart is always in the right place. YOLO

I feel strange doing this on social media so apologies. I’ve reached out to some of my oldest friends the past few weeks to let them know what my family has been going through but I’m an odd mix of private and recluse even though I enjoy making people laugh and being a little bit social so I haven’t reached out to everyone, so apologies if you are reading this and we haven’t spoken yet.

It is with great sadness that I must announce that my father Alvin Timothy Jackson has passed away.

(To those who know me as Alvin no I’m not quite a junior. Diallo is my middle name. Though I am proud to carry his name. 😊)

My father was many things and all of them good. The past few months as I reflect on him I keep thinking I’ve come up short and could never reach the heights of simply being as good a human being as he was.

As his son it’s natural that we wouldn’t always be on the same page but I’m glad to say that when I take my life with him on a whole we’ve mostly been ok. And when we weren’t I was the one who fell short. Not him.

When I was at my lowest he was always there. He showed up for me when I couldn’t for myself. He taught me the greatest lesson I think I personally could have ever learned and that is to persevere, to push, to strive, especially when the world around you doesn’t look quite like you want it to.

If there’s a lesson in this, it is to live your life so that when it is your time there are tears of sadness and gratitude from the people who knew you.

I count myself lucky that he was my father. Where would I be without him. And I hope the lessons he gave me stay with me and guide me to the best version of me.

Last week I asked him if he had any advice for me. And this is what he said…

“Be kind. Be loyal. Be caring. And be humble.”

A message for me, but truly, as was his nature, a lesson for us all.
