Day 187: 5.2 miles, 4,179' ascended, 0' descended The Birches --> Baxter Peak, Katahdin All done 😁! Many thanks to all the people who supported us on trail. We truly felt like we had people rooting for us the whole time which encouraged us to finish, and finish well. We will miss all our hiker friends we grew accustomed to seeing everyday. Looking forward to seeing everyone's next adventure. Sneeze and I are tired. We are going to go home now. It's been fun.🫶 Special thanks to all our trail angels: Sneeze's parents Amelito and Marlene @etherxaldawn @im_that_beeech @krisleahy @timothyleahy My brother Connor Leahy Dana's coworker Ken Kitchelt @gaby.pilarski @ookojie @nat_b_arts @maggieadkinss @eriinaustin @eileen.austin1 @jonathans3751 Jason Varghese Abel Del Pino @itsthirdsworldiii @del.g.willey @haxan101 @ceanewithac @margaretmaschal @janelle_jacobs @pncho_villa @the.padija @capturedmoments09 @kathleenraena @declanjmoyn Auntie Edna Dumaual Aunt Danielle Uncle Charlie @tara.matt_bestlife @warmersoup @ethanthombs @court_kasturi23 My grandfather PetePopPop And to the countless other trail angels we met on the trail. Day 181 --> Day 186 100.4 miles, 17,409' ascended, 17,458' descended Monson, ME Route 15 --> The Birches 2,100 miles completed! 100 Mile Wilderness completed (minus a road walk for time)! Spot at The Birches secured! We hiked the 100 Mile Wilderness with Puma. The wilderness lived up to the hype. Beautiful mountains and streams, rivers that needed to be forded in 30 degrees weather 🥶, nice flat cruisy trail sections, well times trail magic cook outs, ponds and lakes, views of Mama K for the first time 😁, and tons of wildlife. Unfortunately we did not see a moose in the last 100 miles, but oh well. We got to see some old faces including Guardian. He started on the same day we did back in Amicalola Falls. It was cool to be finishing the last stretch of trail with someone who started back in March too. Puma, Sneeze, and I took a road walk that cut off some miles. Originally planned on summiting Katahdin on Oct. 8th, but the weather report started to show bad weather starting on the 8th. We arrived at Baxter State Park this morning and will be summiting tomorrow! Can't believe we are only a day away from the end. P.S. Shout out to @pncho_villa for the $80, and @sniedoba for the $40. We will put it to good use when we are celebrating :). AT Progress: 2193.3 / 2,198.5 miles, 448,065' ascended, 453,669' descended Miles to Katahdin: 5.2 miles

Day 180: 6.2 miles, 1,061' ascended, 663' descended Shirley-Blanchard Road --> ME Route 15 You know I thought we would be done by now. But we are pretty close. 180 days is a long time. By all our estimates we should be done in about 8 days. 7 for the 100 Mile Wilderness, and 1 for Katahdin. My mom and grandpa are planning on picking us up from Baxter State Park. The weather looks good for the next week. Rain maybe on Oct. 8-9, and only one morning in the 30's. The rest of the days are in the high 60's to low 80's even. Monson is such a a cute little town. @shawshikerhostel is an amazing hostel. It's like the hostel owns an entire neighborhood block. The have yurts, tent space, a gear store, a huge house with a commercial kitchen, a bunk house, and a lot more. All the amenities a hiker could need. Not to mention they are a block away from the general store, and two blocks from the pub & gas station. There is a huge bubble of hikers here right now. And we are all leaving tomorrow morning. Might be competing for tent sites again 😬. We are planning on having the hostel meet us in four days to do a food drop. Sneeze, myself, Good News, and Puma (we caught her!) are going to split the cost of the drop. Maybe these will be the people we summit with. P.S. Sneeze and I lost one of the most outlandish games of Scrabble we have ever played. We just kept pulling A's and I's. Day 179: 18.6 miles, 2,930' ascended, 2,943' descended Moxie Pond --> Shirley-Blanchard Road Another long day. We climbed up Moxie-Bald Mountain in the morning for some great views. Not too challenging of a climb. We were up and over it by around 11 am. We stopped at the top when there was signal to watch NFL highlights of the Commanders game. At the top we also met Han Solo and Begin Again. Two thru hikers who have been hiking the Maine section together. We sat and had lunch with them at Bald Mountain Pond. The rest of the day was pretty cruisy. We did 16 miles by 4:00 pm. We had another river crossing at the end of the day, but no ferry. Luckily some local beavers built one of the most impressive dams we have ever seen. It made the river crossing an easy rock hop with dry feet :). We camped in a pine grove just past the river crossing. We are getting to the point where we just eat dinner in the dark. It's not the worst since we have headlamps. I do miss the summertime daylight hours. We have a quick 6 mile hike into Monson, ME tomorrow morning. P.S. Shout-out @court_kasturi23 for the $25 to use in Monson tomorrow <3. Day 178: 18.8 miles, 3,120' ascended, 3,337' descended Carrying Place Stream --> Moxie Pond Long ass day today. The trail in Maine is just a bunch of roots and rocks. It's not quite as bad as Pennsylvania when we just stumbled for miles, but it is pretty close. Our feet are really feeling beat up at the end of the days. Today we crossed the Kennebec River. The river is prone to sudden rise in water level due to the dam releasing water upstream. The ATC hires a man to ferry hikers over in a canoe. There is even a blaze on the bottom of the canoe. The end of the day was what really wore us out. We climbed Pleasant Pond Mountain. It wasn't really that bad of a climb, but there was no water on the mountain. If we wanted to camp next to water we had to choose between 13 miles or 19 miles. It was 2:30 so we pushed on. We were pressing to get to a camp spot before the light went away. P.S. The ferry crossing was very cool. I had to help Greg the Ferryman row us across the river. Good change of pace from walking. Day 177: 19.7 miles, 2,838' ascended, 4,009' descended Safford Notch Campsite --> Carrying Place Stream Witness the duality of hiking with Sneeze. From Slide 1 to Slide 2. I guess she is alright. I'll continue my escort mission of the last 6 months. Today was almost a 20 mile day. It would've been a 20 mile day of we hadn't found such a nice campsite. The trail today finally gave way from the steep, tumoltuous, rocky mountains to a nice flat (still rocky and rooty) trail. We didn't even break 3,000' of climbing in 20 miles. We had a nice lunch today on the rocky shores of Flagstaff Pond. Sneeze really enjoyed the warmth of the rocks and sun while taking in the views of the giant lake and mountain we just descended. The weather is supposed to stay in the 70's on our trek to Monson. Nights in the 30's and highs in the 50's will be here next week 😬. Just hoping we have a nice day for the summit of Mama K. P.S. Even the flat parts of Maine are just so beautiful. Lots of ponds and lakes. AT Progress: 2040.2 / 2,198.5 miles, 423,545' ascended, 429,268' descended Miles to Katahdin: 158.3 miles

Day 173 --> Day 176 27.2 miles, 8,999' ascended, 9,081' descended Perham Stream --> Safford Notch Campsite A lot has happened since our last update. First and foremost, we passed 2,000 miles!!! We decided to stop and have lunch right next to the mile marker sign. Right at the end of lunch, Sneeze realized her crown had fallen off her molar. 🤪. So we had a slight change of plans. We rushed to ME Route 27 where a shuttle from the Maine Roadhouse Hostel picked us up. She was luckily able to get an early appointment with a dentist in Rangely at 8:00 am. Maine Roadhouse again was able to shuttle us to Rangely in the morning. She has a new cavity under the crown, but we will address that when we have insurance 😬. Because of the dental emergency, we ended up taking two days off. Which worked out because it was storming out those two days. The walk into town left us cold and soaking wet, so an extra day off was fine by us. The hostel was very cool. They had a ping pong table and shuttles into town. This morning we left on the first shuttle to begin our trek to Monson, ME. The hike today was over the Biegelows. In theory the trail gets easier when we finish this mountain range. I'll believe it when I see it. We only did 10 miles due to camping restrictions. We wouldn't have made the next campsite before dark. The views were insane today. The autumn colors are fully out. We had 360 views from on top of the Biegelows. P.S. Big thanks to a lot of people. @warmersoup for $50 to "treat ourselves". @gaby.pilarski for the $40 as a late birthday present for Sneeze. And @ethanthombs for the $30 to help cover emergency dental expenses 😕. We appreciate the support <3. Day 172: 13.6 miles, 4,485' ascended, 4,285' descended Piazza Rock Lean-to --> Perham Stream This morning started with some angry red squirrels hurling pine cones down on my head. Sneeze was already out of the tent eating breakfast while I cleaned up. All she did was laugh as I dodged the aerial assaults. Today we got to hike the Saddleback Mountains. It's an above the alpine zone hike for about 3 miles. It was pretty damn beautiful. Nice views of Rangely. You could even see Mount Washington in the distance still. Crazy that we are over 100 miles away from it on trail, but it is still visible on the horizon. Sneeze had a bit of a day today. It was significantly harder than yesterday, and her knees were letting her know. There were lots of moments where I would go ahead on steep climbs or descents, and then wait 10-15 minutes as she picked her way through the technical terrain. Slow but steady she is. The next three days are supposed to be rain days. We are going to get into Stratton in two days. We will have to put up with some weather for a little bit. We haven't dealt with rain on this rugged terrain yet. We will see how that goes... P.S. Sneeze's quote of the day: "It's taking so damn long!". Day 171: 15.8 miles, 3,481' ascended, 2,904' descended Bemis Stream --> Piazza Rock Lean-to Boy was it cold this morning. Sneeze and woke up around 6:30. We tried to get out of bed three different times before we got the courage to leave our sleeping bags. It was in the mid 30's last night. It warmed up to almost 70, but it made for a frigid morning. We did the most amount of miles we have done in 18 days. The beginning of the day was a bit rugged. We did 6 miles before lunch (4ish hours). After lunch we did about 9.5 miles in 4.5 miles. The Whites and southern Maine really effected our confidence with the low mileage days. Not sure we will be doing 15+ miles regularly, but happy to have had a solid day today. We have about 2 days of food left to get to Stratton in about 30 miles. We will probably take a half day to actually get into town. We will be very hungry on that last day. Looking forward to staying at Maine Roadhouse Hostel. P.S. The Lean-to we stayed at had a privy with two toilet seats in it. There is a cribbage board in-between the two seats. Day 162 --> Day 170 79.4 miles, 25,096' ascended, 26,874' descended Carter Notch Hut --> Bemis Stream Hey, it's been awhile😁We have been doing our best to keep ourselves moving through this rugged terrain. We finished up the Whites and thought we were done with the hard part, but we were wrong. Here are some of the highlights of the last week. We took a double zero in Gorham for Dana's birthday. We stopped at the buffet in town not once, twice, but thrice 😋. We took the extra day off because Sneeze's family dog Sarah passed. After that we set off to finish New Hampshire. We have barely been getting at or above 10 miles a day because the land is so rugged. When we aren't going up, we are going down. And it is steep. We did the hardest mile on the AT known as Mahoosuc Notch. It took us 2.5 hours to go one mile. I had to take my backpack off twice. Maine has been really beautiful so far. Fall has come early since we are in a drought. Just these last few days has the weather really felt like it has started to turn. It was in the 30's when we woke up this morning. We stayed at our first hostel in Maine. It's called the Om Dome, and it was sick. Literal dome with a pug who couldn't keep it's tongue in. I'll try to keep daily posts going, but it's limited by signal availability and energy. P.S. Shout-out to @nat_b_arts for the $20 and @etherxaldawn for the $50. Day 161: 9.5 miles, 2,575' ascended, 4,110' descended Madison Spring Hut --> Carter Notch Hut We may have not done a lot of miles today, but it took us all day to do them. We started by summiting Mount Madison. It was a cold morning with winds blistering around 30 mph. The trail was just sharp jagged boulders we had to pick our way through. After summiting, we had to descend nearly 1,500' over the rocks still getting blasted by the wind. Once we got back to the tree line we were able to move a little faster, but it took us nearly 4 hours to go 3 miles this morning 💀.  The AT is detoured around a structurally unsound bride. We decided to take the detour (a little shorter and easier than the old AT) for the sake of time. We took a beautiful trail called the 19 Mile Brook Trail. It had cascading pools of clear mountain water. Red and yellow leaves were constantly falling into the brook giving it a wonderful fall feeling. At the end of the detour, the trail links up with the AT at Carter Notch Hut. We got another work for stay there. We had to disperse some compost that was done becoming dirt. Not too bad for a place to sleep and lasagna, salad, cake, and pumpkin masala soup. P.S. Shout out to @nat_b_arts for sending us another $20 to use in town! We are planning a trip to the buffet for Dana's birthday. AT Progress: 1884.8 / 2,198.5 miles, 378,646' ascended, 382,115 ' descended Miles to Katahdin: 313.7 miles
