UFC 333 (Abu Dhabi) Lock of the Week Alexander Volkanovski

Stepping in the Octagon this Saturday Night in Abu Dhabi as the Goat of the Featherweight Division looks to make his potential “Last Stand” this Weekend over a undefeated opponent in Movsar Evloev in which giving him his first official loss would be Icing on the cake as he defend his Featherweight Belt once again! And sadly for the Last Potential Time. Volkanovski’s first priority should be to avoid letting Evloev establish a comfortable rhythm. Evloev is undefeated at 20-0 entering this matchup and has demonstrated that he can mix effective striking with persistent wrestling.

The key is to make Evloev work to close distance. Volkanovski can use quick jabs, feints, and occasional low kicks to disrupt his forward movement. If Evloev starts reaching for punches or rushing his entries, Volkanovski can counter with a straight right hand or a short combination before exiting to the side. He can make Evloev spend energy trying to establish control while creating more opportunities to land clean, visible strikes. Volkanovski’s striking is most dangerous when he makes his opponents respond to several attacks in succession. His combinations should be short enough that he can defend a takedown immediately afterward.

If Evloev gets close enough to establish a clinch, Volkanovski must remain composed. A championship fight can change from round to round. Volkanovski should not abandon his game plan if Evloev lands a good shot or completes an early takedown. Volkanovski’s best chance is to turn the fight into a tactical striking contest while making Evloev work hard for every wrestling position. He must stay off the fence, attack the body and legs intelligently, defend takedowns without exhausting himself, and land the cleaner combinations in order to Win and hopefully keep his Amazing Career going on the UFC.
