🎨 Sometimes the details don’t tell the whole story. You have to zoom out to see the bigger picture. You’ve probably walked past some of Cape Ann’s incredible murals. Maybe you’ve admired the colors, recognized a familiar scene, or wondered how they got there. But there’s a lot more to these works of art than paint on a wall. In our latest Rockport MA Guide feature, we’re taking a closer look at @awesome_rockport and @awesomegloucester , the artists bringing these walls to life, and the neighbors helping make it all possible. A huge thank you to @salzerilli11 , @getfalked , and @danawoulfe for sharing their time, stories, and creative perspectives with us. And a special shout-out to Awesome Rockport and Awesome Gloucester for their continued investment in public art, local creativity, and the communities we call home. So take a moment. Look a little closer. Then zoom out. Because behind every mural is a story worth telling. 📖 Our latest article is LIVE at RockportMAGuide.com! There’s a first time for everything. I’m honered to be on the cover the Fall issue of Cape Ann Magazine. It’s been a pleasure working with the team over at @awesomegloucester & @awesome_rockport over the last 7 years. @danawoulfe and myself have created some truly monumental pieces here in Gloucester and we couldn’t have made the connections without the help of @salzerilli11 (champion of public art). Thanks again to all who have contributed or have been involved in process over the years. I appreciate your support!

Josh Falk and Dana Woulfe As we near the end of our twelfth year and think about what has let us keep going, two more names near the top of the list are Josh Falk and Dana Woulfe. They have worked on every mural we have done in Gloucester and Rockport, nine finished and two more coming. They met as graffiti artists in Boston and started Studio Fresh together, and somewhere along the way Josh ended up in Rockport and Dana in Essex, which was lucky for us. There is a cod down the Fort now, and a doryman on Geno Mondello’s dory shop, and a Fitz Henry Lane on the old Empire Fish building that lines up with the Lane sculpture up the hill across the street. Josh did seventy-three feet of coastline on Stone Barn Lane in Rockport. People yell thank you out their car windows while these guys are working. Josh and Dana are awesome, and we’re proud and grateful to be their partners on every one of our murals. Also the sort of guys it’s a pleasure to share a pint with and swap stories.

Mural No. 10: The Fog Warning. Winslow Homer, 1885. A halibut fisherman alone in his dory, miles from the schooner, catch aboard - reading the fog rolling in behind him. Homer painted what he saw in the people of this coast: the work, the skill, the steady nerve it takes to read the sky and pull for home. No painter ever looked harder at what fishermen actually do. This summer it becomes one of the biggest murals we’ve ever done, on a wall in the heart of Gloucester. Location still under wraps. Funds raised. Wall secured. Artists confirmed: Josh Falk and Dana Woulfe, back for round ten. Ten murals produced by Awesome Gloucester and Awesome Rockport! Giddy up. 🎨⚓

We are so psyched to welcome back @converge and muralist @danawoulfe who this past weekend painted a new mural to celebrate Converge's upcoming album HUM OF HURT. Converge is a band that means a lot to many of us who work at @widowmakerbrew. They built the scene we grew up in and they never left it. Continuously pushing themselves and inspiring others. We could not be more excited to have this piece of art on our building. Come check out the mural and visit us, @aatmaatwidowmaker located at 190 North Beacon in Brighton Mass. HUM OF HURT will be available June 5 on digital/CD & July 17 on vinyl by @epitaphrecords & @deathwishinc.

Well, that was cool! Proud to have been a part of this extraordinary event put on by our friends @42_north at the @mfaboston last week. When @britt__cole__ asked if we could paint a 12’ x 60’ mural live, IN ONLY 2 HOURS!, I wanted to say it wasn’t possible. That’s a lot of canvas to cover, and a lot of variable’s that could go wrong. But of course we said yes, and came up with a plan we felt confident about and a team that we knew were up to the task. Designed to embody the moody seascapes of Winslow Homer, our mural is a nod to the MFAs newly opened exhibit of Homers watercolors. The amazing design of @petalharder and @hmrdesigns brought the mural to life further with a curved wall embracing the audience and an immersive marsh grass environment making it feel as if you were in one of the artists scenes. Big thanks to everyone that made this event happen especially our amazing team of artists! (Listed below) Stay tuned for more as official media is released! It’s not every day that you get the chance to create art at the museum. 🎨 Together with our friends at @42_north, we set out to create a living canvas at @mfaboston’s Opening Exhibit, inspired by the Atlantic shores that shaped Winslow Homer’s work. 🌊 A curved backdrop and matching seating brought intimacy to the room, while a marsh-grass environment echoed the landscapes that defined the artist’s iconic scenes. We kept the ladders, truss, and tech intentionally raw—an artist’s studio brought to life. As guests moved through the exhibit, the experience revealed itself piece by piece…@alrmusic music building anticipation, as the space unfolded like a brushstroke in motion. 👩‍🎨 Stay tuned for more.
