I was so thrilled to provide a venue for the launch in St. John’s of this incredibly important book, Still With Us, Stories of HIV/AIDS and Dance in Canada, researched, compiled and edited by Christopher House. Thank you to Christopher, Robert Chafe for the excellent discussion, The Tommy Sexton Centre, Dance Collection Danse, and everyone who came out. The last pic here is a QR code for where to find and purchase the book online. Also the book will be available starting this evening at the Festival of New Dance, LSPU Hall the rest of the week! I have not announced yet but Leanto has a space. Another post on that coming soon. Onwards everyone! sarah joy Also the link for the book - https://dcd.ca/product/swu/?mc_cid=ae403b5efd&mc_eid=f35e04cfe9 @christophehouse @robertchafe @dancecollectiondanse @neighbourhooddanceworks

Oh boy, what to pack when you’re not even sure what you’ll be making. I’ve got materials for just about every type of needlework I know how to do from tatting and needle felting to knitting and crochet. So excited to be Maker-in-Residence at the Festival of New Dance. Can’t wait to be inspired by the festival’s opening night works and what that may lead to in new fibre/textile creation! It’s not too late to sign up for any of the Festival of New Dance Response Labs. Join me! Link in bio #dance #fibreart #newfoundland #needlework #knitting

Had to pop into the TMU library this morning and found my book on the shelf! I don’t think it has ever been borrowed but, oh well — it’s there. It reminded me of that plotline in Friends where Ross went to find his book in his university library and discovered it was a make-out spot for students. I don’t think that’s the case in the dance section of the TMU library. I love that there are 3 other DCD publications in this shot — Renegade Bodies, Revealing Dance, and Theatrical Dance in Vancouver. #dancehistory #canadiandancehistory #newfoundland #dance #dancebooks
