If you’ve ever had to suppress more than the occasional yawn during technique class, you’re not alone. Dancers work hard, both mentally and physically, and busy periods can make tiredness feel like the new normal. But when your eyelids get droopy at dance, that’s not something to ignore.

From sleep habits to nutrition, risks, and more, here’s what to keep in mind if you’re feeling a little less than on-pointe. Learn more at the link in our bio. 💤

Building up bigger jumps means building up the strength, power, and control for jumps as well! Here are a few exercises I like to include in training that focus on improving the different elements involved in takeoff and landings for jumps, using only a box :)

Hip mobility for dancers 🩰✨

Your hips do a lot more than just help you hit your extensions. Mobility can support smoother movement, better control, and access to the ranges of motion your dance style demands.

Try adding these exercises into your warm-up or cross-training routine to explore hip mobility with intention!

Save this for your next training day!

What a day at LEAD! ✨

We’re still reflecting on the incredible energy, curiosity, and courage our dancers brought to the room. From moving, dancing, and developing their artistry to building communication skills they can carry into the studio, school, and life, every part of the day was an opportunity to explore, connect, and take a risk.

Dancers explored new movement qualities, designed and led effective warm-ups, dove into our Choreo LAB project, shared their ideas, and—perhaps most importantly—made new connections and friendships along the way. Watching these emerging dance leaders show up with such openness and willingness to try something new was truly inspiring.

A huge thank you to our incredible LEAD faculty—Erika Mayall, Tamara Thompson Levi, and Abby Hunter—for sharing your knowledge, experience, and energy with our dancers and supporting the next generation of emerging dance artists. ❤️

And thank you to every dancer who showed up, stepped outside your comfort zone, and helped make LEAD such a meaningful day of dance leadership and education. We can’t wait to see where you take your LEADership next!

LEAD dancers: What’s one thing you’re taking with you from the day? Tell us in the comments! 👇

Wowsa what a week! For the first time since I think 2017 @danceteacherexpos was in Calgary. And having it back was definitely worth the wait. It was so amazing to meet up with old friends and to make new connections too.

From amazing classes hosted by industry professionals to vendors covering just about everything your studio needs for a successful year, this expo was a blast.

The @stardomdancecostumes fashion show was absolutely amazing and if you haven’t had a chance to check out their new line you definitely should.

I’ve tagged a couple of the amazing vendors who were set up with me. Give their pages a look and support our local dance community. For more details and to set up reminders on your phone to get next years tickets visit the @danceteacherexpos website.
