Peering into practice 👀✨ What does it really mean to practice—not just perform, but stay inside the process? In this new piece from Noel Price-Bracey of thINKingDANCE, “Peering into Practice,” we’re invited to look closer at the labor, reflection, and lived experience that shape movement work from the inside out. Practice isn’t just repetition—it’s inquiry, endurance, and a way of thinking through the body. And there's a chance to see more from Michael J. Love at Cannon Miniball on April 18! Link in the bio to this and other new articles Photo: Courtesy of Michael J. Love Image Description: A dark teal border on the left and bottom edges of a white rectangle. In the center an image: Thirteen dancers in all white and different color tap shoes dance joyfully off of wooden boards in all directions. Their bodies blurred in space. Our reviewers are currently diving into all our applicants' wonderful submissions! Congratulations to all applicants - getting a proposal over the finish line is a huge accomplishment! Lizzy Tan (@liztan_ ) is a dance artist and movement director based in London. Her creative practice and solo performances centre on the philosophy of image and representations of the femme performing body. Her solo and collaborative works have been performed in the US, UK, and Germany at The Place's Resolution Festival, Assembly Festival at the Edinburgh Fringe, London's VAULT Festival, Camden People's Theatre's 'Calm Down, Dear' Festival, Cohen New Works Festival, and Dance Source Houston's 'Mind the Gap.' Michael J. Love (@dancermlove ) is an interdisciplinary tap dance artist who critically engages Black cultural pasts to “rhythm dream” of futurity. His work has been supported by NCCAkron (OH), FringeArts (Philadelphia), and Fusebox. In New York, he’s performed at Carnegie Hall with quartet Sō Percussion, presented at Amant with rhythmanalyst DeForrest Brown Jr., and shown at the New Museum and the Museum of Modern Art with artist Aryel René Jackson. Choreographer, Michael J. Love (Philadelphia, PA | @dancermlove), will be in Akron as he researches choreographic and conceptual possibilities for his new evening length interdisciplinary tap dance work, “rhy/ntology.” Love intends to use “rhy/ntology” to build upon his idea of “(rhy)pistemology,” or rhythm as a system of knowledge, and explore his idea of “rhythm as ontology” as it relates to broader concepts of Afrofuturism and liberation. The community is invited in for a work-in-process showing of his research to date. Work in Process Showing with Michael J. Love Thursday, March 19, 2026 5:30-6:30PM Guzzetta Hall on the University of Akron Campus 288 E. Buchtel Ave, Akron, Ohio 44325 FREE!

@sopercussion brought its innovative style and exhilarating artistry to a program of premieres at Carnegie Hall!     As part of “United in Sound: America at 250,” the standard-setting percussion ensemble brought music by leading American musical talents: @brycedessner’s “Wood and Strings: Infinite Chorale,” @carolineadelaideshaw’s “Strange and Artificial Echoes,” @kendallk.williams’s “Panorama,” and @dancermlove and @jasontreuting’s “A Better Genome,” featuring Love’s virtuosic tap dancing. 📸: @jennifertaylorphotography

Pics from yesterday's late night (9pm!) @sopercussion show at Zankel Hall @carnegiehall with a varied program of all-new works by American composers. Two were through-composed works by frequent collaborators @brycedessner and @carolineadelaideshaw , while the other two were more improvised: an exciting duet (quintet?) with the extraordinary tap dancer Michael J. love @dancermlove written by Sō's @jasontreuting and a less successful collaboration with @kendallk.williams that attempted to replicate a Trinidadian steel drum circle (aka "Panorama") learning the music purely by rote. Still collecting my thoughts, but there was something about the visual dissonance between the source of this music and its players - a situation Sō shares with @sandbox_percussion, @thirdcoastpercussion and just about every other percussion quartet I can think of - which left me feeling uneasy. 25 years into Sō's pioneering career, you'd think there'd be a greater variety of ensembles by now. At least Sō's starting to look outside the circle. #percussion #percussionquartet #newmusic
