✨ Overcoming & Becoming ✨

There’s something so special about bringing a piece of your heart to the stage and watching it come to life. 💜

Feeling incredibly grateful to have shared Overcoming & Becoming in a theater setting as part of Mind The Gap 40! This project continues to grow and evolve, and every opportunity to share it reminds me why I love creating dance. Exploring the push and pull of life, the challenges we face, the support we find in one another, and the people we become along the way.

A huge thank you to Dance Source Houston for providing a space for artists to create, experiment, and share their work through Mind The Gap. Opportunities like these mean so much to independent artists! @dancesource

To @sarahhill_moving, thank you for continuing to create, explore, and dance alongside me. This collaboration has been such a beautiful experience, and I’m so thankful for everything we’ve brought to life together. 🫶

And a special thank you to @lynnlanephotography for capturing these absolutely stunning moments! Having these beautiful images to look back on and seeing our movement frozen in time is such a gift. 📸

So thankful for the opportunity to keep doing what I love, sharing stories through movement, and continuing to see where this project takes us.

Always overcoming. Always becoming. 💜

I think I still can’t believe that among everything going on in my little life right now, i was able to perform in Mind the Gap 40, a dance festival that’s been on my radar since college.

life has felt so whirlwindy lately, but to be reminded that I still have the ability to dance and perform awesome work with awesome people, is just…a gift.

thank you @rachelredding for your vision and for bringing together this group of movers I now call friends! 🎳

UNPOLISHED RIYAAZ 02

TMI Alert

September is PCOS (Now PMOS) awareness month. Having PCOS is hard and you'd think that being a dancer would make it more manageable. As if having the presence of that physical activity in my life is supposed to keep my weight, metabolism, and insulin resistance normal. But that's just not the case.

I still think those of us who have PCOS, endometriosis, or other reproductive and metabolic conditions barely feel understood by other fellow women, let alone dancers.

Personally I've found that PCOS isn't taken seriously until a woman is trying to conceive. I've found that womens' health is typically centered around fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause.

We're just now starting to talk about these things in the general female health community, but this conversation is very much necessary in the dance community too, and honestly, as someone who wants to do something about this, I'm not even sure where to start.

So here are my questions to all dancers and women. How can we make the teaching, learning, and performance spaces more accommodating for dancers? How can we support the teens and young adults who wish to excel further in the art but still need more breaks that a typical healthy dancer?

Perhaps it's time to think about and engage in meaningful discussions on this.
