🐑🐐WeABL Market Vendor Spotlight! Meet one of bolts land stewards who launched her own business: Mia O’Connor of Dancing Ranchers! @dancingranchers “Dancing Ranchers exists at the intersection of regenerative agriculture, family life, and education. We believe transparency matters. That’s why we openly share our ranching journey—the successes, the lessons, and the realities of raising livestock. Our goal is to encourage and educate new ranchers, homesteaders, and curious learners who want to raise animals responsibly and sustainably. While also sustaining a profitable farming business. This ranch is our classroom and our home. We invite you into the work, the joy, and the responsibility of ranching.” #WeActivateBlackLands #WeABLMarket #BlackAgriculturalEcosystem #BAE #BlackFoodFund Thank you 1803fund for the generosity of collaboration!

Part three of excerpts from our work with @dancingranchers 💛 With brand identity design, our process starts with understanding the core values and qualities of the brand we are working with. What energy do we want to amplify? How can we tell the visual story of what makes a business what it is? For Dancing Ranchers we wanted to create something that embodied the multifaceted vision created by @primaryrituals -- a project at the intersection of dancing and movement, abundance and nourishment, celebration and aliveness. A movement to empower, enrich, and restore land, animals, and people.

Part two of our @dancingranchers feature. This brand design took shape with inspiration from the land, western and ranching culture, and the beloved animals being raised. We aimed to create something that felt earthy, grounded, and robust with a fresh and approachable flare. Mia, the dancing rancher herself is featured in the illustration suite. 💛

Three. It takes three women to sheer sheep. Six hands to hold and soothe and cut and maneuver. Three voices to encourage, reassure, guide and trust. Laughter at how ridiculously hard learning something new is the first time you just dive in and do it. Three. Three women bent low to the work, learning the language of wool and movement, of patience and precision. Sweet sheep steady and curious. Tenderness and muscle. Tremble and kick back. Locked in concentration. None of us experts. All of us willing. Three. Because these life moments are sweeter done with arms crossed over one another and hands meeting each other underneath the layers Somewhere between the lanolin, the awkwardness, the sweat, someone holding body, another gliding blades against skin, someone reminding us all to breathe when the block or lack of confidence is felt, the celebration, “we’re really doing it!” something ancient and beautiful and natural is experienced Women gathered around the living, making the work lighter Filling our hearts along the way. Sure. The sheep look a tad mangy. But even that is perfect! Photo credit to Astraea. Who also baked us warm gooey chocolate chip cookies. And who now weaves with the wool on her loom. 🥲 Love! @sammmmaaayyyy and @milk.magick Grateful to the mama shepherds I’ve learned from along the way! @dancingranchers @blackoregonlandtrust

A group of women, who are also mothers, created @blackoregonlandtrust in 2020. A time of uncertainty led them to build a nonprofit that continues to grow, while giving farmers & ranchers stability. In this @koin6 #northwestgrown we see how the organization is helping people like Mia O’Connor of @dancingranchers thrive. Executive Director Qiddist Ashé @theholy.well shared with me how partnerships like the one with @emswcd made it possible to acquire 45 acres of land in Corbett at an affordable price. It’ll be a place that 3 to 5 farmers will soon be able to use.
