‘s post » ❝They’re Going to Eat Me Alive…❞

‘Tis thy 24th nameday! 🥳✨

It’s a little late in the day, but what better than to celebrate with an angsty Celebrimbor edit? I love this song and it reminds me so much of the Silvergifting dynamic.

I love the different ways the color white is used in The Rings of Power. Early on in the Season 1 introduction, we meet Galadriel wearing the white of Valinor. She is happy in the company of her brother, who goes off to war and eventually dies at Sauron's hands. Gradually, we see Galadriel turn away from wearing white, until it disappears completely as her desire for revenge grows stronger.

But that is not the end of the color white for the Lady of Light. After realizing how close she has come to the darkness, Galadriel faces Sauron and fights him nearly to the death. When she is restored, so also is the white of her glorious childhood, an indication that she has overcome that darkness that revenge created within her and if being to rediscover who she was before, along with what she has since learned (symbolized by Nenya on her finger.)

White for Elrond represents the opposite trajectory of his story to Galadriel's. Like her, his earliest years convey the white garb of innocence, which in Elrond's case transforms into lush greens and earthy colors to symbolize the growth and peace of his days as a politician. Only in Season 2 do the colors Elrond wears become more melancholy and harsh, reflecting disillusionment and a loss of his former innocence until even his face bears the signs of war.

Unlike Galadriel however, the white garb of the past does not return for Elrond. The slow death of all he loves inspires his vital work of preservation, but it also changes him forever. Even as his role changes, and his weariness grows, Elrond will drift further and further from the innocence of his youth, while still preserving and embodying the people he loves and lost.

Part 2: I absolutely love the amount of care and thought that has been put into each element of Elrond's wardrobe, and as we can see, the same care has been given to Elros's appearance.

It is fitting that Elros should represent "earth" and "humanity", since this is the path he ultimately chooses. I like to think he takes after Eärendil, while Elrond more closely resembles Elwing.

This seems to be confirmed by the fact that the motifs of Elros's armor focus heavily on stars and his clothes are bright like the sun, a tribute, no doubt to the star of
Eärendil.

In contrast to the warm yellows and golds of Elros, Elrond wears silver and blues, matching the description of "air" and bearing the imagery of "wings", a tribute to Elwing.

As we know from Season 3 leaks, Elrond will ultimately trade his winged armor for the star-crested breastplate of his brother, perhaps to remember him, perhaps as a gesture of kinship to the Numenorean people. Whatever the reason, Elrond's final attire will be composed of the many elements of his heritage; the armor of his brother, the star of his father, the wings of his mother, and style of Numenor.

What are your thoughts and theories about the imagery of Elros/Elrond's wardrobes?
