FULFILLMENT IS ALWAYS HUMILIATING 🥧

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Sources of Power, our opening night and an unforgettable celebration of the spring equinox! 🌗

Due to a cursed camera and awestruck audience members, little footage exists of this ephemeral happening, but for those who couldn't join here's a recap:

After promising interrupted soliloquies, we very nearly delivered a perfect performance! Luckily fate intervened and the masterful Magician (@grooviestgoony) forgot her lines. Which was totally intentional. 🤡

We paid our respects to Ostara, Goddess of Spring (@sjfromthe514) for bringing to life the creatured and the shrubbed, this year and all the rest. Water, sun, CO2, bunny back-up dancers: can you truly have too much of a good thing?! 🐰

The Fool (@lil_circus), source originale, was a joy to behold on the wheel and flowing throughout the space, reminding us that the key to power isn't beauty or control, but balance and perspective. 🌀

Poetry by Karim (@karim.skiredj) brought us a little sweetness and carried us past inner confusions, while poetry by Michael (@michaelanyquist), inspired by the work of Robert Bringhurst and performed by Skylar and Madelyn, explored the differing visions of the Creator and the Nurturer.

Organ music by Sapphonix (@sapphonix_collective) and medieval choral singing and violin by New Voices Montreal punctuated each act, enlivening our eardrums with holy vibrations!

Visuals and artistic direction by Skylar (@dangertaped) linked each distinct act into a whole.

We also owe gratitude to attendees who stepped up and shared their answers in the audience panel! Where are the commons in today's society? 🤔

Shout-out to Teesri Dunya Theatre (@teesriduniya.theatre) for lending us their spotlights and to Value Collective for making possible our occupation of the chapel at La Cité-des-Hospitalières.

Brought together over the span of a few weeks, this unique production was a labour of love by everyone involved. SPRING HAS SPRUNG! 🌷

Let us gather before sundown, in the fleeting hours celebrate the beginning of another Montreal Summer; for each love song across times and grooves; for grapefruit and sweet juice.

So psyched to have @fruitsnack.ca 🍊 and @macmono_and_the_stereotypes ⛵️ with us for an evening of Folk. Soul. and Funk.

June 29th / 7pm / $15

AND NOW THIS...

If you joined us for Absurdist Speed Dating at MAI/SON (@maison_mtl), you may have suffered through an earthquake, made or received a dramatic proposal, celebrated 1 of 2 birthdays, stood up and adjusted your pants 2-3 times, and/or enjoyed a huge plate of spaghetti.

For those still waiting to learn about their matches: Deena (@grooviestgoony) asked Chuck to do it, who may or may not get to it eventually. You can direct your complaints to Waiter Will (@dangertaped) by calling (514) 655-96244.

If you wanted to come but couldn't make it, let us know! We could be convinced to do it again... 😉

Meet the hosts!

Skylar Aung-Thwin (@dangertaped) and Madelyn Capozzi (@grooviestgoony) are multidisciplinary artists and designers based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal.

Skylar's practice is an awkward dance that involves painting, video, sound collage, and writing. They also curate, perform musically in various projects, and mount exhibits of their paintings.

Madelyn uses art to explore questions, themes, or intentions in open-ended and participatory ways. Her work often incorporates writing, printmaking, installation, workshops and performances.

Both artists enjoy just walking, in the city, in the mountains.
