There’s not a single day that goes by where I’m not so insanely grateful that I came out. Every sport, every weekend, every memory, every friend I’ve made since June 28, 2021 would not be the same if I had not chosen to be honest about who I am. Pictures cannot convey how my life is and always will be better because I am out. Happy pride Twenty Twenty Six🌈🥳

If I could talk to the version of myself from five years ago today, here’s what I would tell her:

Today will be one of the best days of your life, and to be honest, it will remain one of the best days of your life.

But your life will look very different in five years from what you imagine today. Your world will completely turn upside down.

Don’t worry, you become a family medicine doctor and pass your boards, but it’s a much harder journey than you anticipate. Unfortunately, you try to do it alone and suffer for a long time by yourself.

When you do finally ask for help, you’re surrounded by your entire village, both old and new. They are the reason you make it through those darkest times. You make lifelong friends in Charlotte and it becomes your home.

You end up in a rural clinic, not what you imagined AT ALL. That first year and a half is tough, with lots of tears and days of doubt. It’s not easy, but it gets easier, I promise.

God finds you again, and you didn’t realize you had strayed away. And life gets a lot less heavy when you have Him again.

You travel to places you can’t even image, you go to dozens of concerts. You’ll take chances you never thought you would. You make some bold moves, and LOTS of mistakes, and you learn to forgive yourself for those mistakes.

You have Peter 😇, Alice, and Rose ❤️ You get to watch your friends get married and have children and feel such immense joy for them.

It’s a messy, beautiful journey.

So enjoy this day and as many of the days you can after. Your life doesn’t look like what you think it will in 5 years, but it’s better than anything you could have imagined. There are going to be some really tough days and even months, but I promise you’re going to shine brighter than you ever have before. ✨
