Jalen Brunson stepped to the podium after winning the NBA finals and asked, “do I be myself, or do I talk my shit?” Why not both?

The Knicks mean so much to me. More than they should reasonably mean to anyone.

In the early 2010s, my mom and I went to both Melo’s first game as a Knick and Jeremy Lin’s first Linsanity game against the Nets. We both shed tears as “Coming Home” and “Jeremy” played over the Garden speakers. This past Saturday, we watched the Knicks win an NBA championship together. Tears were once again shed.

I watched the Knicks close out Game 2 alongside my in-laws, who fell in love with basketball during the 90s Knicks era—the first thing we bonded over when we met more than a decade ago. I watched the Knicks win the Eastern Conference Finals while exploring Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. And today, I got a front-row seat to the championship parade as the floats rolled past the steps of the NYC Public Schools central office—a day I dreamed about since I started working here in 2018, but never truly thought would happen.

I’m a Knicks and Mets fan. I know better than most that sometimes you wait generations for something like this.

I’ll never forget what these past #10weeks have meant to me, my family, and New York.

Thank you, Jalen Brunson.
