Thanks Grace Yoon and the Wall Street Journal @wsj for featuring Clown Gym!

“The New Cure for Career Burnout: Clown School. For actors and others worn down by rejection and the pressure to get everything right, clowning offers an unusual prescription: embrace failure.”

With Clown Gym members @jmproctor, @daniellesmitle, @zoewohlfeld, and @museumoflex, and a photo feature by @storiedmichael! 🤩

Labor Notes was the first time my tapestries were paraded in the style of trade union banners: something I’ve dreamed of for 2 years since I started making ‘Gospel of the Working Class.’ Thank you to everyone who carried them, sang and played music with them, and so transformed them beyond artworks and into living, functional tools for the labor movement.

Thank you to the Great Labor Arts Exchange for insisting on a union culture that uses art as a language. Thank you to Labor Notes for making this incredible place where ordinary working people are recognized as heroes, and where the labor movement can grow and learn together. As my dear friend Jenna commented: most conferences are theory, Labor Notes is practice.

Thank you, most of all, to the handful of artists who introduced themselves to me and said I inspired them to make art about labor. That was completely unexpected and it thawed my frozen heart. Up with the mighty workers. Viva Cuba. Knicks in 5.
