Sustenhorn Ostgrat

At 3.30am my alarm rang. I was already awake, watching it, waiting.

For breakfast I tried to force down some bread and cheese, but at that hour it was almost impossible. We left the beautiful @voralphuette just after 4am and made fast progress to the first section of our climb. Some pleasant scrambling, in the dark.

Then we headed for the glacier. Mentally I was prepared for the gentle slope I know from winter. Instead we found a labyrinth of deep holes and no obvious way through to our ridge. The only way out is through. Gently lowering myself down into a crevasse and carefully out the other side. Then shimmying across the wall I just climbed.

We reached rock, and the hardest climbing was immediately there. I'm no climber, so it felt like a polished vertical wall. The fixed rope got us up — there's no way I could have done it otherwise.

Reaching the ridge was a relief. The challenges didn't stop, and a few sections had brute force and ignorance standing in for climbing finesse. But I really enjoyed it.

From the summit it was quickly clear that flying down would be possible. An incredible flight over the glacier, then the many turns of the Susten pass road weaving through the mountainside below.

Big thanks once again to the incredible @danielperret for leading the day. I will remember this one for the rest of my days.

Zurück in den Bergen. 🏔️

Zwei geniale Tage im Wallis – mit dem Bishorn (4’151 m) als Ziel.

Steigeisen an den Füssen, Pickel in der Hand und Schritt für Schritt über Eis, Gletscher und vorbei an eindrücklichen Spalten Richtung Gipfel. Genau solche Touren erinnern mich daran, warum ich die Berge so liebe.

Jeder Höhenmeter fordert den Körper, und der Geist muss jederzeit wachsam bleiben. Doch genau diese Kombination aus Ausdauer, Technik und Respekt vor der Natur macht das Bergsteigen für mich so faszinierend.

Ein perfekter Ausgleich zum Triathlontraining – und gleichzeitig die beste Erinnerung daran, dass die schönsten Ziele selten die einfachsten sind.

Dankbar für zwei sichere Tage, grossartige Begleitung durch den Bergführer @danielperret und unvergessliche Momente. 🙏
