Happy Global Running Day 💚

Running has always felt like the most natural thing in my life.

Just moving, breathing, letting your body do what it was made to do. It’s simple in the best way.

This sport has given me so many opportunities like representing Canada around the world, coaching next gen athletes and inspiring others to chase their best.

This year hasn’t gone how I hoped though … injuries kept me from having a real season and for the first time in 13 years I won’t be at Nationals.

I’m also really sad I won’t get the chance to defend our Commonwealth Games medal in Glasgow. That one hurts.

But even with the tough moments, I still love this sport. It breaks your heart sometimes, but coming back healthy always feels sweeter. I’m looking forward to that day.

Sending love to everyone out there running today, whether you’re chasing a goal or just enjoying the feeling of moving. 💚

What an evening at Hong Shing. Thank you for the invitation.

@shinangovani
In a restaurant IN a restaurant, and on a night calling out for a darling mix of creatives, chefs, journos, and others, I hosted a tulip-filled din at @yandiningroom this week. One with a message! Spotted: TV host @mary_berg3 , @torontosymphony chief Mark Williams, the good doc Andrew Boozary @drandrewbb , Canadian rapper @cadenceweapon , designer @tommysmythe , money expert @lisleong , The Globe’s @annhuiwrites , and restauranter @coryvitiello. A lively group of 30, in sum.
The menu: thoughtful creations by Chef Eva Chin that began with a “spring chicken tonic” (sea coconut! koji berry!), pirouetted to other dishes such as “sichuan scallop crudo” (my fave!), and sweetly finished with “Yuen Yeung” (a dish that someone at my table said looked like the Sydney Opera House in shape, and came dressed in oolong tea and brown butter!)
The message? Just as sharp. Dubbed the “Get Current” dinner, and done in concert with @meetquilt, the evening was designed as an opportunity to hear about all things electric. Plus, all the practical wa
ys we can get real about climate change. Something Chef Eva herself reinforced when she told the room that her approach to sustainability in the kitchen isn’t about about “saving the world,” per se, but centred in community. “That’s how Yan was born,” she said, expounding on a process that is seasonal, low-waste, and rooted - most importantly - in intention.
Some nights just have the buzz. You can just feel it in the room, and this one sure did - the dinner crescendoing when Cadence Weapon broke out into a “spoken word” ballad. Electric! Thank you to @sarahlazarovic, who spearheaded this event, and @paychen, who helped co-host the night! @ridetowander @torontowave_#shinaneats #yandiningroom

Simu Liu is coming to Broadway in @ohmaryplay, so I thought I’d reshare this clip from when my uncle, @danielryleigh, was in Shang Chi! I remember being so thrilled when this movie came out, and we finally had an Asian American superhero! And, it was amazing getting to see my uncle shine on the big screen! Go see Simu in Oh Mary! beginning February 3rd!

More of Jimmi Simpson from our day
at the legendary Highland Gardens Hotel in Hollywwood.
We used the next suite for wardrobe
and I notiiced the sun was bouncing
off the white tiles into the bathroom
and especially to the tub/shower.
So we took advantage of the light
and the shower.
More stories to come from
the parking garage.

Happy birthday Jimmi Simpson.
.
-Worth the read If you enjoy stories about shoots involving a vintage Hollywood hotel , skateboards, ukeles and getting wet. Many new gems that I discovered from our shoot coming tomorrow-
.
I was so very lucky years ago to get to spend an afternoon in the Hollywood sunshine with Jimmi telling many stories.
From balladeer with his ukulele to eating apples in a parking garage to using the next suite’s bath tub as the sun bounced off the tile floor.
When Jimmi and his PR team arrived I was so impressed how prepared they were and how relaxed and easy going he was in taking time with me and open to many different ideas.
I knew right away when I helped Jimmi grab some stuff from his car before our shoot we were going to have an amazing day.
It reminded me of the car of a teenager with a few skateboards who played ukulele in a surf punk band..
Coming back I asked if he could stay a bit longer to get the great sunset and he replied “You have me for as long as you want.”
This is the kind of energy and commitment made for one of the most creative days I have ever had behind my camera.
When not on set Jimmi is in the streets cheering on democracy in New Hampshire and giving his time on World Kindness Day supporting AnimalsAsia to help getting bears getting to safe sanctuary.
Looking forward to catching his feature writing debut with Slay on the large screen next year.
And big thank you to the kind folks at The Highland Gardens so supporting me for all those years, and also to my daughter Madison for make up touch ups and to her then boyfriend now husband Daniel Liu who helped out
and shot Jimmi and I.
Check out where this lands on timleyes.com .
New stories coming soon.

Being asked to speak at @jennifermoher @filmclub retreat was truly one of the highlights of my 10 year photography career. Jenn has always been someone who’s stood out to me since the very beginning. The way she moves through this industry with such creative independence, passion, and deep knowing.

She gave me the freedom to guide the family session at the retreat with the wonderful @madisonleyes and @danielryleigh and their two kids. I’ve always been inspired by the timeless feel of vintage Ralph Lauren ads (they covered my walls growing up) and that vision quietly guided this shoot. My approach, as always, leaned into connection, playfulness, and a touch of editorial flair.

It was one of those experiences that reminded me exactly why I love this work. The people, the energy, the trust, the creativity. I’ll always look back on this experience with so much gratitude. So much more to come.
