Nende kahe ruumi pinge on lavastuse keskmes.

Sofia Martila @sofiamartila graduated from Tallinn University’s BFM choreography @bfmkoreograafia curriculum this spring, and her bachelor’s thesis “SЮDA” premiered on May 7 in the basement hall of Kanuti Gildi SAAL. We liked the performance so much that now in September we are offering the opportunity to experience it again!

“SЮDA” began with an interest in club culture and its body space – a desire to understand why the club feels both familiar and disturbing, both familiar and foreign, both home and its opposite. 🪩

“I am fascinated by what happens to the human body in a club: how the collective rhythm takes hold and the boundary between self and others blurs. At the same time, I carry within me the experience of dancing at home as the space where I have been most free.
The tension between these two spaces is at the heart of the production. Sigmund Freud’s concept of unheimlich – uncanny – helps to articulate this feeling: a state in which something familiar suddenly becomes strange and disturbing. A club is such a place for me: a space that promises home, but never quite delivers on that promise.”
