The exhibition “Mind the Gap” is dedicated to the exciting exchange between artistic generations. Sculpture and painting meet as independent forms of expression that combine experiences of the past with questions of the present. The exhibition understands diversity as polyphony - characterized by different life paths, attitudes and artistic styles. Different visual languages enter into dialog with each other: sometimes in harmony, sometimes in deliberate contrast. The space in between is not an empty area, but a place of debate. This is where differences and similarities come together, where continuity and change become visible at the same time. The exhibition, curated by Nils Müller, is the continuation of the collaboration between the Städtische Galerie Offenburg and Galerie Ruttkowski;68, following the sculpture park at the Kesselhaus.

Der Graffiti-Pionier RAMMELLZΣΣ schrieb, das Tag im Graffiti sei „not a signature but a sign-overture“. Es geht vom Ausgangspunkt der Signatur, zurück zum leeren Zeichen, „Back to Zero“. Die Berliner Antwort auf RAMMELLZΣΣ ist BOUZUQΣΣ. BOUZUQΣΣ verarbeitet die Geschichte von Berliner jazzigem Graffiti, BOUZUQΣΣ sind die Erlebnisse von urbanen Nomaden, und BOUZUQΣΣ ist die Summierung dieser Einflüsse.BOUZUQΣΣ bedeutet ein gewisses Erbe der urbanen Kultur, von Hiphop, anzunehmen und sich in ihr explosives Potential einzuschreiben. Und es zu mischen mit der eigenen Biographie, mit dem eigenen Erbe. Türkisch „bozuk“, griechisch „bouzouki“, das bedeutet gebrochene Kunst, gebrochene Körper, gebrochene Klänge, „kaputter Kopf“ als Bezeichnung der Zeybek, anatolischer Partisanen. Das Prinzip der Gebrochenheit von bouzouki/bozuk trifft auf den Ikonoklasmus des Wildstyle-Graffiti, das Erbe des Graffiti-Pioniers RAMMELLZΣΣ.Bouzouki + Bozuk + RAMMELLZΣΣ = BOUZUQΣΣ. Just like in the 2023 Post-Vandalismus volumes art critic and author Larissa Kikol was allowed to spotlight a topic in the recent German established art magazine KUNSTFORUM International. Almost 120 pages of the February/March 2026 issue focus on the practice of drawing and also set the 308 volume’s title: Zeichne! – Von der Linie zur Kunst (Draw! – From line to art).

In graffiti just like in the world of art sketches, drawings, doodles or drafts are way more than blueprints for later artworks. With her background as art historian Larissa Kikol dives deep into the genre of drawings throughout the history of art until most recent examples and current positions. In several essays she examines and analyses work from artists like Kurt Cobain, Georg Baselitz, Cecily Brown, Stefan Marx, Romain Fueler or Daniel Weissbach (†) while an article by Jenny Graser deals with drawing machines.

The artist’s and curator’s perspective is emphasized in the insightful interviews with Markus Vater, paper positions founder Kristian Jarmuschek, Nadine Fecht, Michael Tedja and courtroom artist Isabelle Brourman. This volume’s highlight from a graffiti writer’s perspective is definitely the talk Kikol had with New Yorks legendary LEE Quiñones on paper works in the writing culture and how these drawings interact with illegal works in public space.

Recommendation: Post Vandalism – Stephen Burke

The title of the book puts a lens on the reader through which the artworks are viewed. I would have found it more enriching not to focus on vandalism: art in public spaces can be transgressive, depending on the legal situation. But in my opinion, in most cases it is NOT about destroying something (for whatever reason), but quite the opposite: it is about expression, about creating a shared space for exchange and communication!
When I write a poem on a wall, I want someone to think about these thoughts, to empathise, to share in them! I want to communicate. Sometimes this requires means that are unusual or sometimes even considered ‘illegal’.
Letting the air out of SUV tyres sends a message: think about what you are doing here in the face of climate change! Guerrilla Girls @guerrillagirls have been able to change many people’s minds through the humour in their criticism. But stumbling blocks @stolpersteine were (are?) also an unwanted intervention in public space in some regions of germany!
Spaces for exchange are extremely important, and public spaces accessible to EVERYONE are our opportunity to evaluate things together!

The city belongs to everyone.
What is ownership? Who determines the rules? Philosopher Eva von Redecker has written some exciting thoughts on the subject of phantom-ownership: @evas_notizbuecher

The artworks depicted often deal with justified social criticism, sensitive perceptions and well-researched interventions, or simply playing in urban/ public space that nevertheless has great philosophical potential!

Rooted in the gallery’s distinctive ethos, Bohemians channels its collaborative culture into a curated retail experience that brings together art, music and subculture through objects and editions created by friends and collaborators.

For over fifteen years, Nils Müller has built a vibrant community of artists, musicians, designers and thinkers whose work dissolves boundaries between high and low, pop and subculture. Bohemians gives this creative energy a physical home, bringing together independent and artist-run labels, long-time companions and new collaborators. Each month, a limited drop will introduce exclusive pieces that fuse disciplines
and spark new dialogues.

BOHEMIANS is both tribute and experiment—a celebration of friendship, collaboration and creative independence. It continues what has always defined Müller’s approach: forging connections across genres and generations while inviting the public into the conversation.
