Falling Slowly (Glen Hansard) - Fingerprints Music Record Store, Long Beach, CA - 08.08.26

This was the final song of the @glenhansard celebration put on by @fingerprintsmusic. Or as Adrian, who took the helm on lead vocals put it, the “national anthem”. I’m surprised we fit so many people on that stage! But what a great rendition with so many belting it out, including the wonderful audience. Hearing all of those voices singing in unison, heartbroken but resolved, really helped to cut thru the grief, even if just for a moment. It was really special. It felt like Glen was there with us on that stage, or if not maybe in the back of the room smiling happily.

I had just finished playing on the song before, so I stepped back behind the main microphone and was just trying not to fall off the stage haha. I only contributed backing vocals and a few nicely timed hits on the cajon. The angle of the camera unfortunately was set for when I was playing and I didn’t get a chance to adjust it after to capture everyone on stage. Here are the rest of the talented credited performers:

@adrianbourgeois on lead vocals and rhythm guitar
@mrclarkl on rhythm guitar and vocals
@eva.luna.s Dani and Naomi on vocals, harmonies, and keyboard
@puisheen on backing rhythm guitar
@byron.gore on backing rhythm guitar
@danielzucker on backing vocals
@dcamacho13 on backing vocals
@eaguilar7825 and daughter on backing vocals
Me on backing vocals, some light cajon lol

Tried and Failed (Glen Hansard) - Fingerprints Music Record Store, Long Beach, CA - 08.08.26

Rand, who owns the record store Fingerprints Music down in Long Beach, CA, put together a celebration of @glenhansard’s life and invited us to share his songs and share our stories of Glen. We first listened to a copy of his in-store show at Fingerprints Music from March of this year. Then one by one we all shared and traded songs.

I played last since I was fittingly playing the last known song we heard Glen play, his unreleased ballad titled Tried and Failed. At first I thought I’d be playing it solo, but in typical Mario fashion, I summoned some of the talent that was there to play to join me on the song. But when I took the stage it grew from having a few join to nearly every performer who played earlier in the night standing on that stage and doing it up in proper Glen style. Soulful harmonies and wonderfully accented piano notes and a chorus of rhythm guitars to push Glen’s song into the stratosphere.

Skip to the 2 minute mark if you don’t wanna hear me blab on with my story of meeting Glen and go straight to the song.

Special thanks to Rand for putting this together, and every employee at @fingerprintsmusic for staying late to let this happen. Many thanks to the sound crew for making it sound great and for keeping track of all those inputs for everyone on stage. And many thanks to everyone who joined me on stage and made the song sound so good! And thanks to everyone who came out and shared the love for Glen. Big love! ❤️‍🩹

Wanted to add, there was a moment when the lyrics fell off the stand. I laughed because it felt like Glen was on stage knocking it off, in a way of telling me to memorize my lyrics already, haha

@mrclarkl on rhythm guitar and backing vocals
@adrianbourgeois on keyboard
@eva.luna.s Dani and Naomi on vocals, harmonies
@puisheen on backing rhythm guitar
@byron.gore on backing rhythm guitar
@danielzucker on backing vocals
