Pimampiro tiene un potencial increíble por conocer.

Me voy con el corazón lleno. Ver a los osos en libertad, entre estas montañas, me recordó cuánto tenemos por cuidar. 🐻🌿

This lodge is dedicated to not only protecting spectacled bears, but also ensuring the coexistence between humans and bears, with minimal impact to the bears and their day-to-day lives.

By staying at the lodge, you’ll have a rare glimpse into the lives of these elusive animals that are found at high elevations in the Andes. The cable car silently brings you down the canyon & from there you’ll sway peacefully and observe the bears as they forage below you. These wild bears eat grasses, bromeliads and avocados from nearby farms, which typically is a problem. Historically, farmers may try to scare or even eliminate spectacled bears due to damages to their crops, but the lodge actually pays the local farmers for all the property that the bears destroy. This can be expensive (as the bears love to eat), but it ensures these animals can live safely and free from persecution for simply following their natural instincts. In the words of Danilo Vasquez, this is, “A project of coexistence” and he hopes that this lodge will inspire other projects to help protect the bears, while also giving people a window to better understand the lives of these vulnerable animals.

Danilo has been working alongside these animals for over 20 years and he knows nearly all the bears by name, which is extremely impressive since there’s roughly 117 spectacled bears that make their way through this canyon every year.

I can’t recommend @bearcanyonlodge enough, their approach to wildlife observation is not only ethical and respectful to the animals, but also helps to ensure their future as a species.
