Back soreness and sickness nerfed squat positioning a few bench sessions but @danisssshh ‘s deadlift made a statement this block

we had success in pretty much every deadlift block since we started working together but we weren’t able to get it when it mattered, I’ve been reminding him of his deadlift potential since right after Nationals for almost every week. Usually, I don’t condone going against a prescribed load cap but in this case it genuinely made me happy because of the shift in his mindset

he’s starting to trust his deadlift and believe in what he’s capable of. (massive W for both of us)This is what coaching is to me

it was never about just writing numbers on a sheet and posting their PRs I will always take pride in building the athlete behind those numbers.

220 x 8 Hack Squat

@danisssshh ‘s 1st Block Post Junior Nationals

A longer Block length was one of the best decisions for us after nationals, it simply gave him the time he needed to progress through loads where his execution actually stayed consistent, unlike the past where he would constantly run into technique issues at the end of this block which led to poor centre of mass management and obviously not enough depth.

200 x 6 Competition Squat

We went from 3 squat sessions to 2 per week but technique still improved throughout the block

the longer block length + Sets of 6 simply forced him to spend more time in weight ranges where he could consistently execute well and get good quality work without the extra day, he still has a squatting pattern in that exercise slot (Hack Squats)

125 x 3 Competition Bench

Bench frequency stayed exactly the same as it was leading into Jr Nats since recovery wasn’t an issue, usually never is with wide grip high arch bench pressers (if load management is done well) so progress was still coming and i didn’t see a reason to change something that was already working.

240 x 2 Static Start, Tempo till the Knees Sumo Deadlift
+5kg on his best deadlift at Nationals

this might just be the Biggest coaching W of this block

This lift is where Danish has struggled the most technically so i avoided throwing more cues at him🤣
static start, tempo to the knees, ascending sets, and sensible load progression with minimal cueing let him clean up foot pressure and positioning. By the end of the block, the technique was very repeatable for him.

232.5 x 3 Static Start, Tempo till the Knees Sumo Deadlift

2.5kg below his best pull in competition, this was done after multiple sets of squat and bench so another big W

190 x 5 Conventional Deadlift

This was our only heavier hinge exposure outside of the primary sumo work, 1x Conventional, 1x Sumo Setup
