My song “House My Home” is out now and I’m very proud of it. I wrote it in my church here in New York as red light was pouring through the stained glass onto the the piano I was playing.

For the video, Cam and Creed helped build this wall in my tiny Brooklyn apartment that we filled with pictures of my life. Then, on the hottest day ON PLANET EARTH, we lugged it up to my church and then down by the river. I had a 100 degree fever the day before and was coughing up mucus (ew!) between takes. We lost half the film footage and I got sick again after. Whatever, I love it a lot.

A poem for my readers and some photos for my scrollers! ✨

Sunday Poem No. 1

My weeks are marked by juxtaposition:
loud music and the roar of treadmills
quickly replaced by soft sofas
and tears held by tissues.
By courage, too.

Off the clock, I’m
befriending loneliness
while making friends,
watching a big city
become a small town.

Feeling both
at home and homesick,
somewhere between
anonymous and known.

My Spotify suggests
“optimistic cinematic sad boy” on Mondays,
“Hopeless romantic jazz cowboy” on Fridays,
and usually I’m somewhere in between

deeply aware
of both my ordinariness
and the strange fact
that I am the only
Davidson Mobley,
still wondering
what I want
that name to mean.

I’ve asked Alanis Morissette
if it’s ironic
that the most consistent part of life
has been juxtaposition,

only to realize
it’s actually
the faces
and the spaces
seen above.

Late winter
slowly becoming spring,
puffer coats being checked
at a discotheque,

a quiet reminder
that sadness and hope
are just different ways
of paying attention.

For what is a disco ball
if not shattered glass
learning to make light of itself
and sharing that light with others?

So I keep dancing,
from treadmills to sofas,
believing maybe,
just maybe,
I can do the same.
