48 hours in a rarely fished gravel pit 🎣
Autumn has truly set in: wind, rain, and very, very chilly nights—yet the water temperature remains close to 17°C… 🍁🌧️
Crayfish are still active, and the tench are highly active too; I ended up landing 7 large specimens, weighing between 3 and 5kg each 😅
I also had one major break-off in the snags.
I stuck to my strategy, though: 3 rods rigged with 16mm Maple Spice boilies, using three different presentations (a single hi-viz pop-up, a snowman rig, and a bottom bait), all fished over a bed of nothing but boilies. 🎯
The payoff—and the ultimate reward—came during the final night: a rod positioned on the slope of a plateau hooked into some old, seasoned fish!
Mission accomplished. Now it’s time for some rest; this damp weather really takes a toll on a body that’s already seen its fair share of wear and tear.

A 6-hectare session compromised by crayfish: rigs stripped clean in 15 minutes. 🦞❌
Change of plan:
1️⃣ Spombing bait onto the plateau at 60m pellets, Fruit Bomb & D88 @big_carp_france
2️⃣ Rigs placed 10m further out on the drop-off, using a 12mm Fruit Bomb pop-up.
The result: this magnificent mirror carp on the mat!
You always have to know how to improvise; there’s always a fish to be caught. 😉

A nice wake-up call: a lovely gravel-pit fish that fell for a 12mm « Fruit Bomb » pop-up (from @bigcarpfrance) on a size 6 Ape-X Chod hook. Add a stick mix of plant-based pellets and a halved 12mm Fruit Bomb—made using the @ridgemonkeyfrance PVA mesh system—and you’re all set.

Sometimes, casting to the fish is simply impossible. In those situations, I bring out the Hunter 750 (Echo Edition) from @ridgemonkey_france / @ridgemonkey . It’s a joy to use—so simple, yet incredibly effective.
To target this common carp with its truly unique build, I headed for the area beneath the trees, right at the top of a drop-off 140 meters out.
A few 12mm « Fruit Bomb » boilies, a scoop of hempseed, and a Ronnie rig tipped with a 12mm fluoro pop-up from @big_carp_france .
A clean drop, pinpoint accuracy, and it didn’t take long at all for the bite to come
