I never thought I’d be making this video, but I feel it’s important to stand behind those who have put their necks on the line to share their experiences.

Hopefully, sharing my own experience provides some transparency for those questioning what they’ve been hearing, and more importantly, contributes to positive change within the dive community as a whole.

Power dynamics can be incredibly damaging, and at the time, I didn’t fully understand the impact they could have on someone’s mental well-being.

Looking back, I was frustrated by how I was treated, but perhaps even more frustrated with myself for not speaking up. I avoided confrontation, kept the peace, and often chose kindness over standing up for myself. In many ways, that approach allowed me to get through the experience relatively unscathed on the surface, but it came at the expense of my confidence and self-respect.

I’ve since learned that being able to speak openly, establish boundaries, and stand up for what you believe is right is essential to your own well-being.

My experience took place over six years ago. I recognize that people can change, and I genuinely hope that time has allowed everyone involved, myself included, to reflect, grow, and become better people.

This isn’t about holding on to the past or tearing anyone down. It’s about acknowledging what happened, supporting those who have found the courage to speak up, and hopefully encouraging a healthier, more accountable environment for everyone in this industry.

now time for a 2 week lock in before another 2 weeks of travel. soaking up this period of my life and being able to travel and experience so much but am extremely excited to have my routine back for a bit🧘🏻‍♀️

GET THE PICTURES!! 📸🦈

A few weeks ago, we were back on Oahu and out with our friends at @hawaiiadventurediving . We’ve been on 15+ trips with this amazing crew, and we ALWAYS purchase the photo package. But somehow, despite @snappysammyphotos photographing us many times over the years, I had never actually ordered prints from her. HUGE mistake.

I recently decided I wanted to start a collage wall featuring some of the sharks we’ve encountered on our adventures, starting with this trip. Sammy had some incredible shots of the sharks we saw on our day in the water with her, along with photos of our very first tiger shark we ever encountered (on a different day), so I decided it was time for a little “treat yo self” moment. And OH. MY. GOSH! 😍 The prints are absolutely stunning!!!

Sammy was incredibly generous with her time, helping me choose the right images and sizes for what I wanted to create. The turnaround was unbelievably fast, and the quality completely blew me away. They’re printed on aluminum with gallery-quality mounting on the back, so they arrive ready to hang, no frames or additional hardware needed.

And the price for what you get? Let’s just say Sammy is NOT charging enough. 😂

I’m beyond delighted with how these turned out, and now I can’t wait to keep adding to the wall after future trips!!!

And that brings me back to my original point: GET THE PICTURES!!

If you’re looking for an experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life, I cannot recommend an open-water shark swim with @hawaiiadventurediving enough. And when you go, ADD THE PHOTO PACKAGE. Every photographer we’ve gone out with (@whotippedmycow @danny_mako @snappysammyphotos @nani.moana) has been incredibly talented and provided us with images that we will cherish for the rest of our life. And to call these incredibly talented individuals photographers is such an understatement….they really are artists! The way they can capture the sharks and your moments with them far exceeds anything you’re going to capture on your GoPro or with your own equipment. And if Sammy happens to be your photographer, or has photographed you on a past trip, do yourself a favor and get the prints! ❤️

My Favorite Spearfishing Photo — “Millions of Mahi”

I had never experienced anything like this before, and I doubt I ever will again.

We came across the largest aggregation of mahi and bait I’ve ever witnessed. As soon as we put the boat in neutral, the bait disappeared beneath the hull for cover—and the mahi followed.

For more than four hours, we drifted with what felt like millions of mahi surrounding the boat.

After shooting enough fish to fill the cooler, we put the spearguns away and spent the rest of the afternoon hand-feeding mahi until the sun started to disappear.

Huge shoutout to @danny_mako for capturing this moment. This photo circulated all over the internet many years ago, and today I have a print hanging in my house as a reminder of one of the most incredible days I’ve ever spent in the water.

Some days you just know you’ll never be able to recreate.
