Great Willow - Tiny Tour Video IV

...we had the good fortune of staying with the Allen family in Oakland during much our visit. Danny has a studio and had this this song almost completed - “I Hear You.” It’s a fantastic song. When he played it for us Erin could hear both cello and vocals. So they laid it down. Damn, it sounded good. We thought they better play it at our house concert at the Cluffs that night. And so they did. And it slayed.

One of the great things about touring is befriending and sharing days/nights of music with other artists - and we were lucky to encounter some great ones: Danny, Little Gems, Redemption Breaking (Nate), Eva Jay Fortune, Summer Champ, Trixie Rasputin...

We love a concert in a bookstore! This Saturday, in Oakland at Nomadic Book Shop, three bands are mixing poetry and music in a free event that is pushing boundaries and breaking ground.

And the incredible Maw Shein Win (USF MFA adjunct / poet) will be among those with a mic in her hand.

Here are the details…

Kapha & Its Kind, SPRINGTWIN, and We Are Leaves
performing at
Nomadic Book Shop
326 23rd Street
Unit C
Oakland, CA 94612
Saturday, August 8th
Doors open at 6:30 PM
Show starts at 7 PM
Free!

And here’s a bit more about these three dynamic bands…

— Kapha & Its Kind —
Based in El Cerrito, Kapha & Its Kind includes Dan Plonsey on saxophone, Thomas Scandura on percussion, and Maw Shein Win on the mic.

— SPRINGTWIN —
Formed in spring of 2026, SPRINGTWIN features Danny Allen on guitar and Maw Shein Win’s poetry.

— We Are Leaves —
We Are Leaves is a band from the East Bay, composed of Matthew Zapruder, Supina Mapon and Peter Jaeschke. They play their own songs and sometimes songs of others, using guitar, voice, bass, violin, and at times, various forms of percussion.

It’s a wonderful thing when one of your favorite artists also is one of your loveliest & bestest of friends. Danny Allen played the Rite Spot in SF last night & rocked the joint hard! He towers & is the real deal! That’s David Knupp on bass & Steve Pearson on drums. The song is Jimmy Put It Down.
