A beautiful celebration of love, family and Sumbanese tradition. 🤍

A special moment from the wedding of our Alamayah managers, Ana and Yohan.

In this stage of a traditional Sumbanese wedding, buffaloes, horses, cows and pigs are presented as part of a customary exchange negotiated between the groom’s and bride’s families.

One by one, the animals are led into the ceremony, honouring a tradition that has been passed down through generations.

A beautiful reminder of the rich culture and traditions that make Sumba so special.

Our first few days in Sumba looked a little like this.

We’re so grateful to be here — to stay at Alamayah, to share what we know with the kitchen team, and to be welcomed so openly. From visiting the farm with Dan, Jess & the kiddos, to scooting between beaches and villages, to cooking our first BBQ night with the team.

We are never not in awe of this world. The people we meet, the communities we step into, the relationships that form out of nowhere.
