The Denver and national comedy communities are remembering Danny Maupin. “He sowed joy like Johnny Appleseed,” Sam Tallent said. In the Denver Gazette. Link in bio.

Danny’s Celebration of Life is set for Sunday September 13th at Mr. G’s Bar & Comedy Spot in Louisville, from 4:15pm to midnight. Come give Danny the send-off he’d want, surrounded by everyone he loved, with lots of laughter and a healthy dose of chaos.

This celebration will be loosely luau-themed. We all know Danny’s taste in fashion…so dress accordingly and spread the word, rascals!

Another kind and silly soul added the great lineup in the sky @dannymaupin. Danny made this earth a sillier, kinder and more gentle place to live. Chicago created a beautiful place for so many hilarious people to share their stories together. Sometimes, those stories are a lot shorter than we expected them to be.

At least Danny got to exit this planet with the headliners, Dolly and Gloria. Please donate, if possible, for his family. Link in my bio for him.

We’re raising funds to help Mike and Debbie (the original Rascal Tamer herself), cover the costs of Danny’s funeral and celebration of life.

While Danny does have an active GoFundMe for his medical bills, his parents won’t be able to access it for at least 4-6 weeks.

This GoFundMe exists to directly support Mike & Debbie, reducing stress in this incredibly heartbreaking time.

Any excess of funds raised will be donated in Danny’s name to the ASPCA and Comedy Gives Back.

Every donation, small and large, and every share will help the incredible humans who shaped Danny into the person we couldn’t help but fall in love with.

Block Party is this Sunday over at our place in Sunnyside! We’ve got a pretty killer lineup featuring Ed Bell, Sami Beason, Katie Bowman, Lily Ostberg, and Kelsey Rosen.

We’ll have food from Sexy Pizza as well as hotdogs and satay, plus drinks provided by Ratio Beerworks and Fabric. All proceeds from food and drink donations go toward the @dannymaupin GoFundMe to help support his family.

Bring a camping chair, grab a bag of ice if you’re so inclined, and any snack you’d like to share.

One of our favorite Flyover videos ever is @dannymaupin in some truck bed, cruising through the fest neighborhood with @benkronberg. Sharing here as one example of the joy he brought to people around him. Great times with you in St. Louis, Danny ❤️ R.I.P.

RIP DANNY. Not that any loss is easy, but some people you just don’t expect not to see anymore. @dannymaupin was a real one, funny & delightfully weird as all hell, and never ever boring. A true hot dog fan 🌭 Much love to Danny, his family & all of Denver comedy

Story time. In August of 2018 RAD. was like a year and a half old. I'd wanted to do some sort of RAD PRESENTS type shit, where we gave a comic a special show, longer set etc.

We only did it once, we didn't promote it (classic), only like 5 people were in the audience, and it was an absolute blast.

Danny had hit us up for a spot, and I think I kind of caught him off guard asking him to do extra time, and build a show around him. The dude ended up doing 3 sets spread out, complete with costume changes. Rappin' Danny, the kokomo dance, rascal energy throughout.

We opened with a RAD DAD bit where the room was double booked for the RAD DAD's Wheel of Time book club. Unfortunately folks were only there to see the show, but all is well cuz it turns out the RAD DAD is a Maupin-head (see DM tattoo).

Other friends did the show, it was a fun ass time, in a largely empty basement. Those 5 people were dying.

Danny's gone now, and I wish I could step back to the LLB days and show every young comic what they did, so they could be inspired like I was.

RAD. is still running, and every time someone says something like "wow this is fun/weird/cool" I appreciate it. But, in the back of my mind I'm always thinking how we are just an echo of Late Late Breakfast, Shithole, We Still Like You, etc.

I didn't know Danny well, as I was getting settled in Chicago, he was already established, and later moved away. But he made a hell of an impact on me, and anyone who did jokes in Chicago in that magical time.

I host, how I host, in no small part because of Danny. He's the prototype.

He will be missed, there is a rascal shaped hole in all of our hearts. (Wile E Coyote style)

---

P.S. The first time I did LLB, I was tasked to write and preform a set during the show, about Namor the Submariner. I got the biggest laugh I'd gotten in Chicago to date, maybe ever, on the line, "He's half human, half mermaid, a sort of sea mulatto"

I was internally lamenting I'd never be able to use it again.

I ultimately lost to Tim McLaughlin who wrote a set on keynesian economics after a tie breaking gun flip preformed by Tom Wisdom. Bless Tyler, Liz, and Danny, they did a perfect thing.

I spent a lot of time with Danny over the last few years and I can’t recall much of it when we weren’t constantly laughing. Always down to clown. Always up for a bit. Always going to name our trivia team Dr. Fart MD. He took me to see My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks where we got the best parking spot in the lot, told me stories about touring with Mac Sabbath and kicking Peter Frampton’s ass, cooked me hot dogs on the 4th of July. One time we even partied with the RZA. I’m really going to miss that rascal. Rest easy my friend.
