It's Friday! What do you have planned for the weekend? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'll be spending part of Saturday getting ahead on various business tasks so I can travel to Milwaukee on Sunday and spend a couple days with my parents to celebrate my dad's birthday.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyone else LOVE working on the weekends? I find it's a great way to get ahead and enjoy working without the same stress and pressure that is present on a normal weekday. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Truly, one of the things that I love most about owning this business is the flexibility that it affords me. I can get ahead on the weekends and make time for other things that are important to me, like spending time with family and celebrating birthdays with those I love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Small business ownership allows me to call the shots and be flexible, as long as I'm getting my work done. And I wouldn't want it any other way. It's definitely not for everyone, but as a self-starter - I'm happiest moving around my schedule so that every week and every day is different but each lets me focus on what is most important to do or get done.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PS for anyone who doesn't know me - I'm Chelsie (@chelsietamms) and this is Daniel (@danohart), my boyfriend who helps with countless Lettering Works things behind the scenes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PPS A new blog post is up which features a case study on the brand of this very coffee shop @thespot_coffee that we are working at in this photo. They are almost celebrating their SECOND birthday in this gorgeous brick and mortar location. Happy birthday to the world's most supportive and encouraging boyfriend/obligatory employee! Daniel has known me since the very beginning of this business (funny story he thought I was in business for a while when I literally started my business maybe a month before meeting him). It's #fridayintroductions time and it happens to be the end of the month - so what better time to reflect on what has happened this month. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In all honesty, February has been ROUGH. It’s been the slowest month I’ve had in business since January 2017. Business ownership and freelance design naturally has its ebbs and flows but starting 2020 off so slow wasn’t what I expected with all my big goals and momentum. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But this post isn't a pity party - it's a place to reflect on wins (shoutout to @rachelfishercreative for gifting me "The Small Business Owner's Growth Journal" and getting me in the habit of documenting the little things) - no matter how small they are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here's what happened in February: • I spoke at the Business of Art Conference in Peoria on branding and pitching your art via email • I did a photoshoot with @violetandivyphotography to capture the newly launched Plant Collection (+ more!) • I ordered new business cards! • My Women in Design interview with @chykalophia went live • My podcast episode with @peopleofpeoriapodcast went live • I attended @firstrounduc in Portland and listened to many inspiring branding speakers • I saw my postcard in the airport for the first time! • I started selling products at @localgoodschicago and @littlebrokenthings • I had interviews with @logansquarist and @shemakeschicago (more on these coming soon!) • I poured ALL of my downtime into a new passion project - Cool Beans - which will launch March 1st in honor of Kidney Disease Awareness Month. I'm beyond excited to share this.
