Nothing goes better with a Blue Wave than a little “Resistance Swing.” But first, y’all need to get out and VOTE so we can make this tour a giant CELEBRATION and start getting ourselves out of this dystopian nightmare.

Voting matters. Your vote matters. That’s why they are trying so hard to suppress your vote. So no excuses.

Who wants a song about an evil predator finally getting his karmic due? 🔥🔥🔥 This is our original tune, “Lucy,” which imagines the Devil as a badass, female vigilante whose job is to take out the trash 💅💅(And Lord knows it feels like there’s a lot of trash to take out these days.) I hope it is as cathartic for you to hear as it was for me to write. It’s going to be on our next album, but here’s a sneak peek of a recent live performance of it…

Also, I wanted give a big WELCOME to the thousands of new friends who just found us thanks to our cover of Irving Berlin’s iconic, “When That Man Is Dead and Gone.” For our new friends, we are a 10-piece jazz band based in Los Angeles. We make “Resistance Swing” because swing music outlasted fascism before - it will again 🥂While we are so glad you found our little corner of the interweb - we hope you will come see us live! (We tour around the country - and hopefully soon the world 🩷)
xoxo

First of all - HUGE THANKS for all of the love on our last post (our cover of Irving Berlin’s “When That Man Is Dead and Gone” which he wrote about Hitler in 1941. While this song only blew up this year - we’ve been playing it for over a decade! As the years have gone by, the penultimate note keeps getting longer and longer 😂😜 But this recent performance might be the longest I’ve ever held it (at about 12 seconds). The silence afterwards has gotten longer, too. I really love silence in music - sometimes it speaks the loudest.

For the thousands of new friends - WELCOME to our sweet little corner of the interweb 🩷 We are a 10-piece “Resistance Swing” band based in Los Angeles who tours around the country playing mostly original tunes about everything from AI to predators finally getting their due to evil billionaires and late-stage capitalism. Somehow we turn those topics into swinging songs to infuse you with JOY to help us live through these fucked times.

We hope you can come see us LIVE sometime! We have a bunch of shows announced and WAY more that are in the pipeline. So drop us a note and let us know where we should play next!

And remember - swing music outlasted fascism before. It will again 🥂

Lizzy

I’m having a great week at the Oregon festival of American music. Thanks to the amazing and inspiring Chuck Redd for doing a great job of putting it together and inviting me to be a part of it. He and Gail are incredible people! Thanks also to James and Ginevra Ralph for running this amazing festival for 35 incredible years! So many wonderful musicians are here, including Nicki Parrott, Dan Barrett, Pete Anderson, Tim Clarke, Howard Alden, Randy Porter, Scott Silbert, Kevin Kanner, Randy Napoleon, et al. The music I added here is from a friend of ours, the great Ken Peplowski, who was the previous artistic director of the festival. I also added some photos of the area we’re staying here, just a beautiful part of the country! I included one of Mt Baker from the flight. Also, Anne Phillips sent me a photo yesterday of when we first met, at the Oslo jazz festival in 1987! The photo is from the Sunday jam session at the Grand Hotel, with Doc Cheatham, Bob Kindred and Al Grey. Jay McShann was on piano, such an amazing experience as a kid to get to play with those incredible musicians! The last photo is of my sons Liam and Shane 15 years ago! Amazing how time flies! I have a couple more concerts here, then I fly back to NYC for a recording with my friend Mike Morreale. I head back to Winnipeg for the fall semester in early September, have a great rest of the summer!
