NEW INC pushed me to try many things for the first time.

While I’ve introduced my work in classrooms and artist talks before, this was my first time shaping my practice into a short stage presentation. Through workshops and rehearsals, I learned different ways of sharing ideas and connecting with audiences and future collaborators.

I don’t know where these new relationships and opportunities will lead, but I’m proud that I said yes to the challenge. It was rewarding, humbling, and deeply inspiring.

Endless gratitude to my Extended Realities cohort, our mentors, and the entire NEW INC team. We worked hard, and we really nailed it. 💖

🟣During my year residency at @harvestworks I worked with amazing Danielle Mcphatter @danymcphatter on my new animation and VR project. 💜Thank you so much for all the work, guidance and teachings! From 3D scanning my sculptures, to animating them using Blender and Unity, to creating my first VR — the process that goes behind making things move, thinking about physics and matter.

🟣 In June 2025 I was an artist in residence at Lala @lalaspiti in Athens, which allowed me to travel to research related locations. I recorded original 360 footage of sites of interest like Plato’s Academy in Athens, Orpheus’ cave in Lesbos and Pythagoras’s birthplace Samos, which later served as backgrounds for the animation and VR. 💜Thank you to the Lala @lalaspiti family, Eva H.D. @57fiver and Sarah @sarah__e__anderson for all the support and companionship.

’The moment when you stop looking for them’ by Itziar Barrio is a cross-media installation including film, VR, and robotic sculptures. 💜 With the support of @guggfellows @nyfacurrent @harvestworks @nyscouncilonthearts. The animation and VR components present a speculative fiction dialogue-turned-flirtation between the philosopher Plato and the mathematician Euclid. Visit the exhibition @harvestworks in Governors Island this summer.

ANCESTRAL INTELLIGENCE NETWORK: ECHOLOCATION

Echolocation is an interactive 3D map and living archive exploring Ancestral Intelligence—dynamic knowledge systems, philosophies, and traditions passed across generations within Indigenous African communities and their diasporas.

Built from six years of research, the project combines video game technology, GIS mapping, spatial audio, interviews, and archival materials to visualize alternative frameworks of intelligence rooted in human and more-than-human relationships. Through contributions from artists, technologists, healers, environmentalists, researchers, and community leaders, Echolocation examines how ancestral knowledge can inform our understanding of technology, ecology, and the future.

Developed through the Ancestral Intelligence Network (AIN) in partnership with NEW INC and EY Intelligent

The Intelligent Realities Lab [IRL], part of EY Global Innovation, explores the intersection of AI-powered immersive technologies and human-centric design. IRL's mission is to reimagine and shape the future by blending creative technology with experimentation. For the past four years, IRL has partnered with NEW INC, the New Museum's incubator for art, design, and technology, to sponsor a pioneering artist-in-residence initiative. Through technical exchange, public exhibitions, and conceptual research, the initiative has produced works that challenge conventional narratives around emerging technologies while keeping humanity at the center of innovation.

To conclude the exhibition HOUSE OF LEARNING SYSTEMS, artist, composer, and educator Matthew D. Gantt, who specializes in sound in virtual spaces, will conduct experiments with the system within Davidova’s installation. Gantt is a long-time collaborator of Davidova and contributed the sound components of the work.
