Join us for the exhibition opening on ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ง๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” ๐š๐ญ ๐Ÿ“:๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ ๐๐Œ at the AUB Archaeological Museum.

Material knowledge of clayโ€”the ability to identify, harvest, filter, shape, and fire clayโ€”is historically passed through embodied practice rather than written records, leaving it vulnerable to erasure. This is particularly true in contexts like Lebanon, where modern-day land privatization and speculative development disrupt access to clay sites.

๐‘Š๐‘–๐‘™๐‘‘ ๐ถ๐‘™๐‘Ž๐‘ฆ: ๐ธ๐‘๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘”๐‘–๐‘’๐‘  ๐‘œ๐‘“ ๐‘‡๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ ๐‘š๐‘–๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘› embraces material knowledge transmission as an evolving and unstable processโ€”one that acknowledges loss, allows for transformation, and resists closure. In doing so, it positions contemporary artistic practice as a critical site where archaeological heritage is not only preserved, but actively regenerated and carried forward.

The contemporary works presented here are not reconstructions of historical forms, but responses to Lebanonโ€™s long history of material transmission. We invite visitors to carefully attend to ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’„๐’๐’‚๐’š ๐’Š๐’•๐’”๐’†๐’๐’‡ and consider what degree of agency, if any, it may possess.
