@scenenoise: The connection between North Africa and the Netherlands has long been central to electronic music, yet remains under-examined. For decades, Amsterdam’s underground scene has been shaped by its Moroccan diaspora, with artists and promoters building their own infrastructure and carving out distinct sonic identities. That relationship is now becoming increasingly reciprocal. As Morocco’s domestic scene grows, driven by festivals like MOGA and a new generation of local selectors, the country is no longer simply absorbing European influences but exporting its own talent, sounds and ideas.

At this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event, the panel ‘Morocco & the Amsterdam Diaspora’ brought this exchange to the fore at Felix Meritis. Moderated by Soundsisters artist OumaimaTune, the discussion brought together Amine K (artist and founder of Moroko Loko), DAOX (co-founder and head of booking at MOGA Festival) and Dutch-Moroccan artist Elias Mazian to look beyond the cultural connections and examine the economics behind them, from who profits when regional sounds cross borders to who controls access to why do local artists still struggle to break into international circuits. Rather than treating cross-cultural exchange as an inherently positive force, the panel addressed the inequalities that continue to shape it, making the case that genuine exchange depends on fair access and equitable pay, not just an appreciation of the music.

Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) has announced a series of panels featuring Arab music professionals and industry figures as part of its 2026 conference, taking place from October 21 to 24.

The sessions will look at the electronic music scene across the MENA region, bringing regional perspectives into wider conversations around the industry.

@SceneNoise #NoiseFeatures: Each year, Amsterdam becomes the nerve centre of the global electronic music industry, where the conversations shaping its next chapter unfold. Across five days, Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) brings together a huge roster of artists, promoters, label heads and industry executives to shape the forces and strategies driving club culture across the globe. For its 2026 edition, running from October 21st to 25th, ADE Pro is putting the Middle East and North Africa firmly in focus.

Over the past decade, independent scenes across Cairo, Beirut, Casablanca, Amman and the Gulf have built their own infrastructure against a backdrop of venue shortages, currency crises, border restrictions and political instability. Through independent labels, self-funded party series and distinct sonic identities, regional operators have carved out space on their own terms. ADE’s conference programme, including sessions at venues such as Felix Meritis, examines what this shift means for the wider industry, from turning structural constraints into creative opportunities to positioning MENA as an exporter of sounds, talent and business models rather than simply a market for European headliners.

Co-founder and artistic director of MOGA Festival, he connects underground electronic music scenes across North Africa and Europe. With performances at international festivals like Untold and Wonderfruit, and renowned clubs across Europe and Asia, DAOX continues to shape the underground scene through immersive musical experiences that unite cultures and communities.

He joins Back To House – Underground Series Vol. 03, taking place in Marrakech on November 13 & 14, bringing his distinctive sound and deep musical storytelling to the underground scene.
