Back in January I called this as my favourite book of the year and that has not changed I loved this story. @daphne.press I would love to be considered for an ARC for The Blade and the Last Sacrifice Brutal, heartbreaking, visceral this book is one of those special ones that comes alongs so rarely that takes everything you think you know and shakes you up and makes you feel things so deeply. I kept carving out time to get back to reading this book I’m obsessed with Evander and Bryony their journey from mortal enemies to lovers was epic, destructive and heartbreaking if you want true enemies to lovers and he will burn the world down for her literally then this is the book. I cannot wait to get more of them and Theo and Bastian in the next book.

A chaotic ARCtober update! I’ve almost filled in the bingo board, it should actually be filled this week! ARCtober has been an excellent time for me. I’ve finished 9 ARCs/publisher mail books so far and I should finish at least another three this week. But then it is half term so we’ll see how much reading I get done. Even if they don't like fantasy, or even romance and spice, they get me yapping about this, because it deserves that and more! It lives rent free in my head. I've taken the book everywhere. I have multiple editions. YOU’RE NO BETTER πŸ“° there is truly not a single word or sentence that Andrew Joseph White has ever published and i have not absolutely loved β€” seriously. from religious horror to YA horror to adult body horror and now to an intensely-topical YA crime horror/thriller… i’ve read and adored every single one, and today’s title is no exception! it’s rare to find an author who you feel like just β€œgets you” β€” but then again, when an author is ALSO trans + autistic + horror-obsessed + from appalachia just like you, it kinda just fits! YOU’RE NO BETTER (out 10/27/26) is a gritty YA suspense novel about Morgan Slaughter, a 17-year-old autistic trans boy who put his serial killer father in prison years ago. his mom thinks he’s destined to be just like dear-old-dad, and he wonders if he will be too; he can’t stop obsessing over his father’s final victim, the only one who’s remained a Jane Doe. he’s desperate to identify her, and it lands him in an uneasy alliance with classmate Felicity Keating, who knows more about Morgan than they let on. perhaps Morgan wasn’t just a witness… perhaps he was an accomplice. i don’t want to spoil things here, because for the first time in a LONG time, i actually didn’t predict all the twist and turns that this story took! this is absolutely one of AJW’s darkest + most devastating books (yes, including the bug-baby one), full of all the β€œunpleasant” parts of autism and grief and trauma that are often shied away from. i really appreciated that, as i so often do with AJW’s books. this book is painfully human, deeply complicated, and hair-trigger sharp, asking important questions about exploitation on all sides, trust and manipulation, and what friendship looks like within the very unpredictable seesaw of teenage life (even if your life DOESN’T look quite like Morgan’s). i traded a friend for this ARC and it was one of the best decisions i made all year. πŸ“° qotd: Morgan is the unenthusiastic main character in a documentary about his father’s crimes. recommend me a documentary (NOT true crime) that you’ve enjoyed! flat lay of naked hardcovers and ARCs of Andrew Joseph White’s books with paperback ARC of You’re No Better at the center

This is book one in a series of interconnected standalones and I am dying to read book two. The world building was well written, with interesting side characters, political scheming, murder and even some trials. But it all starts with a war 300 years ago between gods and humans and the bargain that ended it and shaped the realms into what they are now. Evander, the Wolf, has been added to my book boyfriend collection and is definitely my favourite thing about this book πŸ₯΅ He is a ruthless, bloodthirsty assassin on behalf of Alexios, the god of storms. Since the war he's been exacting his revenge on the humans by slaughtering those deemed 'oathbreakers' and when princess Bryony finds herself marked as an oathbreaker, The Wolf is sent to deal with her. He discovers this princess has teeth and won't make it easy for him. A very late wrapup and hopefuls πŸ˜‚ What was your favourite read of September? Mine was definitely Victorious! Though You're No Better was really good too. Had a very hectic month with Ellie at the vets / work trip so not a lot read. Also I was a lil hooked playing Dawnwalker. October though, I've already read 5 books in that pile πŸ‘€ Of Blood & Fire, Steelborn, The Dungeon Book, One Last Scare + Reap & Sow!
