How mothers and daughters communicate with each other is so important. Often we as the parent feel we can just tell our kids what to do.

And we can, but…lol

Once they hit puberty and adolescence in particular, that just causes arguments.

I really tried to treat Alana as a full fledged human (because she was that from birth!) and I can honestly say it really paid off.

Here’s her advice to moms on how to do that more effectively.

Have a watch/listen to the full episode. LINKS ARE IN MY BIO.

Daughters, does this resonate with you? Moms, how about you?

Much love,
Gina

Imagine watching yourself with Oprah Winfrey (WOW) for the very first time… surrounded by people who have known you for decades. 🥹🙏🏽✨

That was my night in LA.

City Club LA hosted us for an impromptu screening of Shonda on The @oprahpodcast , where I had the incredible blessing of sitting with Ms. Oprah Winfrey to talk about my debut book, Give Me A Year: 12 New Things to Embrace Change and Live Your Best Life, and the 12 New Things®️ lifestyle.

What made it even more special? I had never watched the full conversation.

I wanted my first time to be more than pressing “play.” I wanted to take it all in and celebrate with people who have been part of my story—family, dear friends I’ve known for decades, and fellow UCLA alumnae. 💙💛

Watching myself across from @oprah , surrounded by people who knew me before the book, the tour, the interviews—and knew some of the journey it took to get here—hit differently. 🥹

We laughed. We cheered. We reflected. And I allowed myself to simply receive the blessing and celebrate how far God has brought me.

A reminder: don’t become so focused on what’s next that you forget to celebrate the blessings in front of you that once seemed impossible.

I did a new thing. I wrote a book. I stepped out on faith. And God guided my footsteps to a seat at Ms. Oprah Winfrey’s table. 🙏🏽🙌🏽

P.S. Look closely at the B-roll—there are some familiar faces making cameos! 😎

Now I want to hear from YOU! ❤️ Have you watched our conversation yet? What was your favorite moment—or what impacted you most? Drop it in the comments. 👇🏽✨

This wasn’t just a screening. It was gratitude, friendship, family, faith—and a full-circle, 360 moment.

Another beautiful 12 New Things®️ proof of concept: you never know where doing something new can take you. ✨

Thank you Jesus, @Oprah, @oprahpodcast, LA City Club, everyone who celebrated, encouraged me, shared the episode, bought the book—and most importantly, prayed for and with me along this journey.

My heart is full. ❤️🙏🏽

Sunny Within Hike Club 🌿🥾☀️

Hike #2 at Malibu Creek State Park — rock pools, sunshine, good people, and a beautiful morning outside. 💛

So fun sharing the trail with Daphne and seeing Ken and Sharone bringing this little hiking community together. ☀️

I had to peel off early for dance class, so I missed Century Lake this time… which just means I have a reason to come back. 😉
