Got something to say? Take the mic! Join Daragh Fleming for an evening of original spoken word, big ideas and creative expression offering a platform for young writers to showcase their own personal art and truly express themselves through a performance of their work. Whether performing for the first time or a longtime poet, highlighting the deepest contemporary issues or the lightest times in life, this is a chance for young voices to share their work with the room at our DBF After Dark Festival Club.

Between performances, Daragh will explore what spoken word can offer as a creative outlet — from turning thoughts and feelings into words to finding your voice and making something that feels truly your own.

Only last tickets remain to be in the audience but there’s still time to register your interest in performing on the evening. Find the form on the event page at our website. We can’t wait for this exciting evening of performance and creative expression!

This event was curated by DBF Youth Curator JP Curran.

It’s not my usual content but the message in my mother’s speech is the thing that underpins all that I do on here: Community. Taking care of one another.

I wanted to share @josephine.wallace speech from the @image.ie awards this week because it needs to be heard. We need to pause. We need to be reminded about what it means to be human.

And to see @daraghfleming watching her speak was, personally, a very big moment for me. My mum might not know who he is (yet!) but much of his poetry very much reflects the sentiment of my mothers speech. We are all longing for connection. I know all of you who follow me actively seek and/or try create this too, in whatever way you can.

My mums message is specifically about fostering as well as community. It’s something I don’t talk about here as I’m not involved professionally with fostering nor am I a foster parent but I have witnessed the incredible work my mum does and the wonderful individuals in her life because of it.

So once again; here’s to you @josephine.wallace and I hope you continue to inspire more of us with your beautiful words

Such a special two days in the presence of @doctorshefali
Just wow. I knew her work was powerful, but to hear her in flow and in the flesh, sharing her wisdom, her lived experience and her knowledge was truly phenomenal and inspiring. Her work around conscious parenting is SO needed now more than ever in our crumbling world of anxiety.

The key to honoring, minding and nurturing our next generation is not focusing on THEM as the problem to be "fixed" but is consciously looking in the mirror at ourselves. If a plant doesn't blossom we don't examine the seed, we examine the soil. The environment in which it is raised. It's not always easy to hear this - but we FIRST have to do the work, so that we don't project our unhealed pain upon them.

It's not about blaming or shaming anyone - it's about healthy curiosity, maturity and responsibility to honor ourselves and our loved ones. Parenting is MESSY, it's meant to be. Nobody is perfect and nobody has it all figured out. It's an awakening on all levels.

Another thing she spoke so powerfully on was the destructive impact of technology on our kids and on us all! It's next level stuff. DON'T give them the phone. Delay delay delay - @smartphonefreechildhoodireland. Better fight that battle of not giving it to them, then give it them and deal with the repercussions of all that comes with social media at that young vulnerable age. Choose your hard.

And lastly and probably most importantly - what are children missing so much of in today's modern world of everyone having to "do it all!" - what's getting lost - PRESENCE and CONNECTION with our children. Healthy attachment. Time with them. Repairing. Say your sorry when you mess up
- because we ALL mess up.
Release the expectations, surrender, choose your battles!

Thank you @drshefali for all you do. Please go read her books - consciously raising boys and consciously raising girls.

And lastly - huge thank you to @jacquelinekyne @kynefoundation for hosting it all and bringing it all together for two magical nights in Ireland

Very special and truly memorable

Thank you 🙏💓🙏

Loved getting to meet and hear @doctorshefali speak this week at the Dublin launch of her books Raising Conscious Sons and Raising Conscious Daughters.
I read The Conscious Parent in my early days as a mum and it truly changed my outlook. One of the most surprising things for me about parenting was the mirror it holds up to you and Dr Shefali’s work and message is all about how to navigate that.
It’s a lot at the minute with screens and algorithms so I think these books have been published at a pertinent time.
Amazing to watch my friend @jacquelinekyne_events make her vision a reality with this event and all the work she does with @kynefoundation whose focus is on kindness and connection.
A busy but beautiful week ♥️

What a beautiful evening welcoming @doctorshefali to Dublin!

Dr Shefali is a clinical psychologist, bestselling author and leading voice in conscious parenting. She encourages us to move beyond control and expectations towards deeper connection, empathy and self-awareness.
Her work is a practical reminder that parenting isn’t just about raising our children, but also about understanding ourselves, breaking old patterns and growing alongside them… so much to unpack!

I came away from a truly mindful evening with plenty to reflect on, and a few mental notes on how I can keep showing up, learning and doing better as I navigate the beautiful, messy journey of parenting our two boys.

With thanks to my gorgeous friend and the brain behind it all @jacquelinekyne and the @kynefoundation for the invitation x

Ps: We were spoiled by poet & spoken-word extraordinaire @daraghfleming with two beautiful poems - If I Ever Have Boys & sister poem, If I Ever Have Girls. Simply wow, as per.
