Darcy J. Sears is giving us a look at her newest series, Women Who Carry.

The series is a tribute to all the things women hold throughout their lives, often without showing the weight of it.

Working with slabs of clay, Darcy hand-builds each figure before firing them at her home studio. As the sculptures take shape, she begins incorporating meaningful found objects gathered over decades: treasures from a friend in Africa, buttons that belonged to her mother and grandmother, earrings her daughter made for her 25 years ago, and countless other keepsakes filled with memory and history.

These objects become part of the story. They are held in the women’s hands and dangle from the hems of their dresses, representing the memories, relationships, responsibilities, and experiences women carry with them through life.

The series is deeply personal, but also universal.

Darcy’s work often transforms ordinary materials into something poetic and magical, exploring not only the physical form of the figure but the spirit, emotion, and stories contained within it.

Now she’s taking the concept even further, developing a monumental bronze version that will be five feet tall. In this larger work, the objects will be scaled up and attached to the dress using sailcloth, creating an even more powerful expression of what women carry through the world.

As a sculptor working in ceramics and bronze for more than twenty years, Darcy’s work has been exhibited throughout California and France and is held in private collections across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

This month I exhibited my works during Mill Valley art walk at Moonstruck Fine Jewelry.

I often refer to my paintings and sculptures as wall jewelry, pieces that complete a space the way the right piece of jewelry completes an outfit.

Seeing contemporary fine art displayed alongside handcrafted fine jewelry feels natural. Different scale, same devotion to detail, material, and intention.

I am always interested in how art lives within a space, especially in environments rooted in design and craft. Displayed together, the jewelry and artwork enhance one another each bringing depth and presence to the other.

The collection remains on view at Moonstruck throughout February.

If you are in Mill Valley and appreciate contemporary, fine art for collectors, and design conscious interiors, I invite you to step inside and experience the work in person.

If you would like more details about available pieces, please comment below, I would love to connect.

Every year, sculptor Darcy J. Sears creates a one-of-a-kind pair of candlestick holders - and this is a little peek into her process.

Working in clay with the same intention, intuition, and poetry that shape all of her figurative sculptures, Darcy builds this year’s candlestick holders by hand, coaxing form, gesture, and personality out of the clay. Her work has always been about alchemy - transforming the ordinary into the magical, turning everyday moments into timeless symbols, and letting wings appear where you least expect them.

For over twenty years, Darcy has sculpted in ceramics and bronze, exhibiting in California and France, and building a devoted collector following across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Her larger body of work continues to evolve in playful, whimsical, and deeply human ways.

My work is driven by my need to mold life out of clay. Clay has no boundaries or limits. Wings can sprout on anyone. Clay enables me to transform the ordinary into magical. My work ranges from realistic to whimsical, classical to abstract. The purpose of my art is to bring joy and beauty into peoples’ lives.
